Shimofusa Open house was held in October 2010. Home to two Navy training squadrons. 203 Sq flying P-3 Orions and 205 flying YS-11s.
With the retirement of the based YS-11s already underway this years open house was advertised as the last one for the YS-11s so made this event worth a visit.
Start up - it was great to hear the sound of 6 Rolls Royce Darts starting up.
The Orions of 203 sq were one of the last to sport colorful markings however only 2 of the Orions on the day still had the unit markings - and none of them flew. Unlike the other units they still have the day-glow wingtips.
This one has the unit markings but stayed firmly in the static.
