Duxford September airshow, Saturday only (non-DSLR)

Duxford September airshow, Saturday only (non-DSLR)

Postby Hatstand on Sun 14 Sep 2014, 3:01 pm

I guess as others have said, Saturday's show was perhaps not a Duxford "classic", but I found it very entertaining nevertheless.

I loved the whizzy little Cosmic Wind, the Catalina, the mighty Vulcan... and the Great War Display Team - I had no idea that Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickenson was one of their pilots! The BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane have clearly taken the script that Shuttleworth gave them, and learned it by heart. (This is a good thing). Weather was beautiful, and I thoroughly enjoyed strolling around seeing what I could see. Met a couple of UKAR chaps in the FoD enclosure too, and had a good chat (I won't incriminate them by giving their names haha :-D)

Getting out of the car parks took hours afterwards. I hope things are better for today's visitors, but somehow I fear it will be worse...

Anyway, here's a few photos - the first batch are from my trusty old Panasonic FZ200 superzoom with a Nikon TC-E17ED teleconverter and red dot sight...

You're good at the crossovers.
Is that David Roome on the Jet Provost (#25)?

A good and well presented set.Like the way you have incorported people . . pilots, ground crew and spectators . . in your set, rather than just flying shots. At least we can tell where the event took place.

You certainly do that camera proud. Some great captures, in what were pretty horrid conditions light-wise. :)

I'm not really "good" at cross-overs... it's actually my gear that makes it easy. When a crossover is coming, I switch to 12fps burst... and using my red dot sight, I can watch with both eyes and a full field of view the whole time - so it's easy to see/anticipate when to press the shutter. In a burst at 12fps, I'll usually have two or three "dramatic" shots to choose from.

Catching the cross-over istelf is so easy, it feels like cheating... my only problem is figuring out which one to pan with (which one is nearest and will be in front?). I tend check which one the other photographers are following, because they seem to be better at judging it than me...! :-D

Is that David Roome on the JP? I'm afraid I wouldn't know, sorry...
