Duxford BofB show M11 end - 1st shot UPDATED

Post by aviationphoto »

Just an opener for now from a show that felt to me like it had a strange atmosphere... right up to the finale anyway which was amazing! Shooting from the M11 end felt nothing like it used to be (mainly due to post-Shoreham restrictions which were mentioned a few times during the show) - none of the topsides I used to get from there as fighters curved past along the display line. Most take offs were from the other end with the aircraft peeling away from the crowd trying not to overfly the M11 - a pretty bad accident on there anyway kept it closed for most of the afternoon we were there (including having to pause the show for a while to let the air ambulance in). All was forgotten though when 19 Spitfires and Seafires (including 3 Griffon engined examples) thundered into the sky (along with Sally-B) treating us to several wonderful formation passes as the evening sun shone gold across a magnificent sky. The formations then broke into 2 with the Griffons and some later marks in front of us west to east while 8 earlier marks peeled across the sky on the far side. The sight and sound was jaw dropping and certainly for me the highlight of 2015. Well done IWM.

Thanks all

A few more - also correction on the number of Spitfires - the pics show 17 rather than 19 - I will have to have words with my 5 year old's teacher as he was doing the counting

Thanks for sharing, I would have loved to be there but a small thing called XH558 was at my local show for the final time. At least there's a possibility of seeing this again whereas I can't see 558 flying again after this season.
