My efforts from the Saturday of the show. The Mustang, Trig Team and Sea Vixen were highlights but the Rafale absolutely stole the show. A thoroughly enjoyable day, and once the rain had blown through, we had some lovely sky for backgrounds. The full album is here, including photos inside the hangars while it was raining https://www.flickr.com/photos/spinner67 ... 1284039374 - Thanks for looking!

Great photos. It was more overcast in parts for me on the Sunday, so I've missed out on vivid colours and blue skies in my shots.

Out of interest, what focal length, shutter speeds, metering and modes were you using?

I shoot with a Canon 100-400 lens, the shots of fast jets are right at the 400 end, most of the other shots are in the 250-400 range. I tend not to fill the frame when I'm shooting to avoid chopping bits of the aircraft off as my panning tends not to be brilliant, and then crop afterwards. For this show I stayed on shutter priority mode with the speed usually at 1/320 or 1/400. I find this normally gives a reasonable amount of prop blur, but a good chance of the aircraft being sharp. For jets I tend to go up to 1/640 or 1/800 as they're moving faster. I adjust the ISO to give an aperture somewhere between f7.1 and f11. A number of shots in the album also have a bit of exposure compensation dialled in as I was finding that at times the camera was underexposing, the vapour shot of the Rafale being one. Metering isn't something I've really played with, so it stays on evaluative.
Having looked at the photos on your thread, it seems you had some very iffy weather conditions. At times like that I try not to blow out the sky and then mess about in photoshop trying to lighten up the aircraft. Not the most helpful suggestion, but overcast is a pain, and I don't tend to have much success when the sky is like that.
