Post by Airsmetten »

Memories to an exciting 3 days at the words biggest aviation event Airventure 2018. The EAA estimated the attendance in 2018 at over 600,000, with 2,714 visitors registered from 87 nations. There were approximately 10,000 aircraft, 2,979 show planes on-site from Six continents, along with 867 commercial exhibitors.

Great set. The Raptor shots are brilliant, and that VX-9 Super Hornet has a cool scheme for a low vis bird.

Stunning shots from a fantastic show, that is a dream for a lot of spotters. Thanks for taking the time to post them. This sort of post
is something which contains images we will never see the like of in the UK, and those that don't remark are either just too lazy or jealous... :yahoo:

Thanks a lot for these kind comments  .
I'm fairly new in posting on the UKAR forum. After being a spectator for the last few years I've finally found an easy way to upload my pics for use with forum coding.

OSH doesn't only have a unique day show, on Wednesday and Saturday evening they also have a splendid night show. And by night show they really mean "night"-show.
Amazing what these performers can pull off in the darkness of night.

Below some of my highlights from the Saturday night show.
Hope you like them

The night show there is amazing. Can't see anyone getting away with anything like it here though.

Remind me I need to return to Oshkosh. The night show pics are excellent and decidedly different.

A great set of photos   . I was waiting for the Wednesday night show when it was "deluged" off.

I missed a lot of what you saw - Hornets, F-15s, B-52, B-29 and B-17 in flight . I managed three days, Tuesday-Thursday and enjoyed every moment. Part of the fun was aircraft disappearing from the ground show and suddenly reappearing in flight or elsewhere on the airfield! I arrived on my second day to find the B-1 and Boeing 757 had disappeared, to be replaced with a KC-10 and a Galaxy!

Many thanks for posting.

Must agree with you re. the quality of this show and encourage all our members to make the pilgrimage at least once. I find the modern 'fast jets' a bit ho-hum, but the vintage jets, prop warbirds and antiques that attend are second-to-none. Your images are excellent too - so good that I can 'taste' Oshkosh. The images of the night show are far superior to anything that I managed to record during my two visits. Heading over for my third show next year and hope that a similar range of aircraft attend. Many thanks for sharing your images.

Thanks again guys!

It would be quite correct to say that it is impossible to see everything in OSH even if you stayed for the full week. Each day is a different day with participants fly in and out from sunrise to sunset.
Every time you walk by the Boeing Plaza the setup has changed with statics being added or pulled out as the time goes by.

I've managed to stroll about 2-3 hours each day through the never ending static spending the rest of the day at the crowd line.
Below I have a final upload ready with some of my impressions from the static. I tend to take a rather different approach to static shots. Some may like, some may not but that my personal expression.

Hope you like some. Comments are always appreciated.

Great set, the number reflecting the size of the show but the quality is top-notch. That red-tailed B-17 and the B-29 look superb amongst many excellent images.

Amazing set of shots. Thoroughly enjoyable to look through as there's so much variety, not only in subject, but also in style and composition.

I agree, what a great set. Wonderful airshow photography.

This is the first Oshkosh set that I've seen that conveys the event as a true show, as opposed to an enormous fly-in with some flying which its how its usually conveyed. And a set that makes me want to visit, very much. Great stuff.

What a set and by the looks of it, what a show! Been on my "Hit list" for years without ever having the chance to do it.
Maybe one day..... Cracking set of shots with excellent composition as well as rarity of types. Incidentally, what on earth is that thing in the first set welded at the wings with what looks like a Jetpipe between the fuselage(s) :clown: ?

Fantastic stuff

Thanks again guys!

I'll have another look at my collection and I'll still have some of the Aerobatic acts to process. So maybe one more update in the pipeline

@ Pat Murphy, you are correct. What you see is the exhaust duct of a Learjet engine which has been bolted on the mid wing section. This is just sooo typically Oshkosh  . They always seem to have something that gets even the most weathered aviation enthusiast look twice before he gets it. Really amazing display of this Yak-110. That aircraft really puts out some amazing maneuvers.

@ Austinp, I don't know the real story behind this. She was literally almost 10min head down into that cockpit trying to fix or recover something I guess. Needless to say that she caught quite some attention during her "act"

I'll be back with one last update.

Greetings
Rick

Just stunning (pictures and event)
no matter what your tastes are in the aviation world Oshkosh provides for nearly everyone

I watched most this years show on live stream as it happen`d and even that was exhausting

Really have to try and make the effort to get over to this event
