Ferté-Alais 2019 (Sunday)

Postby Col. Chibani on Thu 25 Jul 2019, 9:44 am

A little bit late*, but better that never, my usual photo report of "Le temps des hélices" Ferté-Alais airshow.

* I changed Flickr to G**gle Photos, not wanting to pay the ransom for my hostage-held pics.

Weather was reported quite rainy on Saturday, but was luckily far better on Sunday.
The line-up, as usual, was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike previous years.

We start with the "oldies" : Morane H, Blériot XI[sup]2[/sup] andCaudron GIII :

Centennial oblige (and anyway usual Ferté display), above the trenches, first Knights of the Air meet (SE5a replica, Bristol Fighter, Fokker triplan) :

Between the wars happy years (spoiler : it means that the next war is near) (Morane-Saulnier 317) :

Sorry for the delay, I was stuck in a no-Internet zone, somewhere in the center of France.

So, let's change from whinning RIAT reports ...

In Germany, despite post-WWI restrictions, aviation rises (Junker F-13 and Klemm L25) :

But black crosses begin to appear on newest aircraft (Messerschmitt 208 / Nord 1101, Junker 52, Fieseler 156 Storch) :

A typical "Ferté cross-over", RAID (French police SWAT) jumpers drop from a genuine Ju-52 re-enacting first airborne operations of WWII.

Super so far, thanks for sharing

Are Swastikas banned from warbirds? I seem to remember that Airfix et al stopped using them for a bit when I were a lad, but they're historical (hideous when used as a Nazi symbol, but historical nonetheless) but I think they're back on model kits nowadays.

Quick Google search seems to suggest that some wear them and some do not.

Thanks CJS for the nice words.

About the svastikas, their displaying are still forbidden by law in France (and Germany, I guess). There must be some exemptions, but I think that the aircraft owners want to avoid any trouble.
Similarly, let's consider please the subject closed here, in order not to face a "XH558" syndrome.

The History continues even more eastwards (let's say somewhere in the middle of the Pacific ocean), where a swarm of aircraft take the sky (CTRL-H "Cocardes" & "Etoiles" with "Hinomaru") :

New sounds, new shapes, the jet engine is a "game changer" (although war is not a game).

F-86 Sabre :

Jet engine also awakes flying man fantasies (CJ01 Minijet, Flying board F. Zapata) :

Thanks to F. Zapata, England is no longer (again) an island:

But propellers still have something to say.

If you can't choose between propellers and jets, choose to glide : pure flight ! (DFS Habicht E, H-101 Salto & Pilatus before )

So, after WWII, propellers still resist (Morane Saulnier MS733 Alcyon & Moynet Jupiter) :

And some even go to war (A-4 Skyraider, T-28 Trojan, Skymaster) :

If I ask "twin-engine, twin-tail, two-seat carried-based", you answer is Tomc ... Zéphir !

Right!

More recent, the Rafale :

And this year, we had a "double PAF" feature with 13 aircraft: 5 Fougas and 8 Alphajets.

Here it is, the airshow is over, but there are still some bonuses for those who are patient.
