Oshkosh after dark

Post by Niallxg »

First time to attend "Oshkosh" and all as I can say is all descriptions about the event does not prepare you for the size of the event. It's massive, I spent six full days and still didn't see everything.

I thought I'd post some shots from the activities after the main daily airshows. In addition to the daily flying activities, there are a number of nocturnal events during the week, although the most enjoyable for me wasn't actually a flying event but rather the hour long talk/lecture on the Friday night by Michael Collins and Joe Engle about their days in the space program. Just brilliant. Anyway, on the Monday evening there is a traditional concert - this year from The Fray - to open the event the USAF legacy flight did a flypast comprising of two P-51s, an A-10, F-22 and F-35, the latter two proceeded to tear up the field for about 20mins, until I think they were told to stop so the band could be heard. Pity. Afterwards a number of balloons were shown off.

I had to wait along time for a clear shot but patience paid off...

In addition, two nighttime airshows are held on Wednesday and Saturday that culminate with a "small" fireworks display!!!! For the Wednesday night, not knowing what to expect, I decided use the UPS 747-8F as the subject matter.

Then near the end I moved over to the CL-215 of Viking Aircraft.

Saturday, being a little bit more prepared I chose the F-35C that was roped off and guarded on Boeing Plaza.

Throughout Saturday evening, nature showed off its own light show.

Hope you liked this small selection from Oshkosh.

Niall the first F35 pic is the one for me. Excellent pics.

whilst I attended Oshkosh the long days and miles of walking meant I was simply too K******d for the evening shows-full marks for perseverance.

Thanks for the comments. I can't decide between the first or last F-35 shot myself.
