I'm guessing through Aviation Photocrew (look them up on Facebook), you can buy a seat on their Skyvan for events such as RIAT. It's not cheap, but you'll certainly get the best seat in the house.

But would that really include being that close to the RAFAT while they displayed? Taken during a practice display I presume? On the Thursday? Long lens or not, that's an extraordinary photograph in particular.

Pretty sure that's not a display, they're above the clouds after all :P

It's a display manoeuvre - it counts in my book

How much does something like this cost for goodness' sake?! :hide:

I'm sure it varies, but from what I've seen earlier it was around £1500-2000 GBP.

Thanks for the kind comments. This was done through aviation photo crew and is not cheap to do but the chances you get to shoot frontline aircraft is amazing. I have done stuff through COAP as well [centre of aviation photography]. haven't posted on here for a very long time but thought I would share these. Going in September to try and catch Phantoms air to air over Greece. If I am successful I will post a couple on here

Nice work Gary - Hope the speedboat business is doing well!

I enjoyed the same opportunity two years ago and it was fabulous but had to convince my other half that it was a "once in a lifetime" experience whilst hoping it might just happen again one day.

You certainly got a good shift Thursday morning with the Belgian, German and Danish specials all due close together. Lovely stuff. How many of you are in the Skyvan and is it easy to get pictures out of the back or is there a scrum?

We could see the Blades and the 'Bus trailing the Skyvan to the North on Thursday morning and the anticipation of Sunday's flypast bubbling through the crowds, the tension and excitement ripening like a day old dog turd left in the possibilities bin of what do we do now all our other plans haven't come to fruition? There's one we put aside in here boss...........

There are 16 people in the skyvan and everybody has a position to stay in. Everybody wants to get the shot but generally there is a good understanding between photographers and most remain courteous during the flights, of course as in everything in life you do get a few that want to hog the shot. when you fly on these type of things you have to understand that you are not going to get every type of shot of every aircraft and just be happy with what you get. It is very addictive once you have tried it and is very damaging to the bank account, be warned.
