The second airshow airshow that I went to in Texas, this one at Ellington airfield and a 270 miles, 3.5 hour drive from Dallas.
Camera and lenses used was the same as at the Alliance airshow.
It was very humid when I arrived and I was already dripping sweat well before mid morning. The Temperature rose to about 90°F on the day.
After the show and on the final leg of my return journey, about half way from Houston to Dallas, I could see a lighting show developing in the direction of Dallas. Then, just as I entered the Dallas area a few minutes after 9 pm, a Tornado warning was issued and a few moments later by a confirmed touchdown at Love airfield on a track which was too close for comfort. Apart from the constant lightning, the almost simultaneous bangs and the horrendous downpour of rain, I never saw any of the Tornados as it was dark. I have never driven through such treacherous weather in my life.
It is generally rare for anyone to encounter these conditions, so if you want to go, I hope I have not put you off.
Thanks for looking.
