Axalp 19 Week

Post by Dr Cake »

Another highly worthwhile Axalp trip.

Monday
An overnight snow dump created a magical winter wonderland. As a consequence, it turned out to be a memorable day for photographers. I'm reliably informed that it was as long ago as 2003 since the last snow. Without in anyway trying to compete with Andy's photography masterclass here are some of my efforts:

Tuesday
Even though a lot of the snow had melted, we still didn't risk Wildgarst, instead spending another day at tower:

Wednesday
The weather forecast for Wednesday was afwul and unsurprisingly it was cancelled. So, after a few hours in Lucerne, we went up to Dubendorf for the afternoon:

Thursday
We fully expected Thursday to be cancelled due to terrain conditions but were surprised to discover the reason was due to discovery of wing cracks. So we spent the day down at Meiringen AB:

A great set of a great week, some real quality shots, but my favourite, yes youve guessed it, the blokes on a rope
If you like these pics there are more utterly brilliant shots at https://www.flickr.com/photos/131094099@N08/albums

Yet again, another superb set of 82 action-packed Axalp photos from Dr. Cake - excellent photo resolution and subject composition - thanks to Rich for sharing them with us.

Image 53, was that worked for or a complete fluke? The lenticular effect of the shockwaves is incredible, I can't recall ever having seen an image like that in dry air? OutBloodyStanding!

The col at Axalp is rich hunting ground for that kind of shot. A few from 2018:

Thanks Andy - the Monday was one of my favourite days ever associated with this hobby. From a photographer's point of view it was simply sensational. That said, it's not the easiest trip we do! Here are a few phone snaps taken on the Monday to give you an idea what it was like:
