From the Madingley cemetery Facebook page...

To mark the 80th Anniversary of the forming of the mighty 8th AF and their ties to England. Cambridge American Cemetery will be part of a special flyby on Tuesday 1 February. Aircraft will be flying from RAF Marham to RAF Lakenheath, to IWM Duxford, to Wimpole Hall, to Cambridge American Cemetery and then to RAF Mildenhall. Aircraft will be 6 in total. They will be:
2 x B1B Lancer (USAF 34 Bomber Sqdn)
2 x F-15 Strike Eagles (USAF 494th FS, 48th Fighter Wing)
2 x F-35B (RAF/RN, 207 Sqdn)
Flight time 12.03 pm over the cemetery, but if you are in the flight path and the weather is OK, you may see them.

Why has Duxford adopted a policy of closing to the public when there something interesting going on? Seems a good opportunity for them to make some money...

Duxford hasn't adopted a policy of closing to the public when there is something interesting going on. In case you hadn't noticed, Duxford has been closed on the Monday and Tuesday during the winter monthts for the last couple of years.

OK, I get that Duxford's management may not have been consulted about the date for the flypast, but it's kind of non-coincidental that the 146 arrival took place on a day they were closed: that was within their capacity to negotiate. Lets just say that future events of interest will now be scrutinised for public-facingness on here at least....

Still think there missing a trick. Ultimately they need income to survive and there missing out by being closed for a flypast.

Unfortunately for some Museums, it can cost upwards of four (sometimes five) figures a day just to open the doors. Sometimes staying closed when visitor numbers are low is more economical than opening. Would the costs of opening for a one-off flypast, (which has only been announced with a few days notice and is weather dependent) on a weekday when a large amount of people are at work (even if that is in their front rooms) or their children at school be made up by attendance on the day? Probably not.

Rightly or wrongly several museums have also realised that the recent periods of forced closures has allowed them to get on with maintenance, collection care and some of the other bits of generally keeping a museum going, that just aren't possible when open to the public 7 days a week. For Aircraft museums, this may include aircraft delivery, however I'm pretty certain that the 146 delivery date would have been largely dictated by the RAF, and also dependent on when Duxford could arrange the necessary ATC, fire and over coverage necessary for the delivery.

It’s not the staff at Duxford who make these decisions but the high ups at IWM Lambeth.

It's not an aerodrome NOTAM, it's a navigation warning that mentions Duxford AD.

Go to the link that Pen Pusher posted, then look for the orange line that goes through Duxford.

To make it easier to see, untick all the boxes on the right other than "show navigation warnings".

Does anyone have any thoughts on the B-1s?

I wasn't aware there were any in the UK at the moment, or Europe - so are they doing some sort of global power exercise?

one came over from the US specially for Eastbourne in 2005; very impressive too! and a Stratotanker and a DHL 757 (doing what airliners don't normally do) the next day. Those were the days!

Won't be the first time that a B1, B2 or B52 hasn't done a flypast as part of a US-UK-USA round trip flight.

Fighter Control are reporting one B-1B(OXRAY 11) crossing the pond. OXRAY 12 turned back.

It was impressive, and they were in nice sunshine at Duxford. A single B-1B, followed a few seconds later by a formation of 2 F-15Es and a single F-35B, with an RAF Hawk weaving overhead.
