Shuttleworth Sept 5th Sunshine for a change

Post by johnr »

At Last! A warm sunny day at Old Warden

Peter Teichman's 'Russian' Spitfire made its first visit to Old Warden

I nearly missed it

We were promised 5 Edwardians but the Deperdussin, although rolled out, did not fly.
The Bleriot did one short hop then taxied to the far end and nearly came to grief coming back when the pilot got he nose too high after lift off.
It flopped on to the grass and stopped but appeared to be undamaged as it was towed back to the hangar.

"The Bleriot did one short hop and nearly came to grief when the pilot got he nose too high after lift off ..."

It also managed a very short/low hop when it went the other way, but was back on the ground very promptly.

Thank you. That's what I was trying to say when I posted but didn't say that the 'incident' occurred on the second attempt. One shouldn't post just before bedtime.

Nice shots - unfortunately it looked like the Bleriot did suffer some sort of damage during the landing. Hopefully nothing too major.

A friend sent me this which appeared on Facebook. Some wrinkling of the fuselage fabric suggests some bending of the fuselage but the wheels and u/c look intact

Thank you. Such a relief to see some sunshine and be freed from the Covid box
