Mildenhall 18/10- Herk refueling hose IFE

Post by galaxysi »

lovely day today with loads of movements, mostly c-130's.units include Dyess,Bragg Pope and Wyoming. Also dropping in was a Turkish herk and the special ops boys were out in force as well, with 4 of there aircraft active throughout the day.one of the 67th MC-130P's returned later with one of its refuelling hoses stuck extended.it flew down the runway at 200 feet and then cut the hose, which made for an interesting photo opportunity.also there today were various tankers, the highlight of these being a couple of Tinker tankers.(i have not posted pics of the based stuff, only the IFE aircraft).

Nice pics, will try and get mine on in a while. Was quite something seeing that Herc cut the hose wasn't it? Me and my brother were the two teenagers who were on the trailer.

The Hose Drum Reels have a cutter built into them for that exact reason. Can't believe the Turks are starting to go Grey on their Herc fleet

Yeah it was jammed, something called up at around 1:30 saying it had an inflight emergency and was dumpuing fuel, then this called up around 3:30ish (i think, wasn't really paying attention to the time). They evacuated the buildings in the vicnity before it came in, but only got one fire truck out. about 10 minutes after everything had been sorted out the other 6 came out, stopped on the other side of the runway and then went back in.

Just a bit of technical info. The hose is attached to the drum via a quick release coupling which can be electronically actuated from the flight deck in case of emergencys.

Not sure about a cutter, there's enough things in there to damage without adding anymore.
