'The Black Pearl' - USAF C208B @ Prestwick

Post by eng3 »

Hi, posting three shots just now. Quite a few visitors today and the weather was not kind. I'll sort some out and post later

USAF Cessna 208B night-stopped. Thought it was going early so was up around 5am to get a possible 6am departure. They headed off just after 8am and did it didn't half pour down. Got a soaking - but it was worth it

Expecting Captain Jack Sparrow to jump out

Hi, thanks, 5am = 0500 hours. Not too early for gems like this  (three of us were there)

Nice pics of a rare bird - do you have a close-up of the mission markings that you could postup?

Hi, best I can do is to crop one of the take-off run. Sadly they're not the best as I use an inexpensive 55 to 250 Canon lens but the rain was so heavy you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in a monsoon area  .
The mission markings look like faces, not sure if they're pirates or balaclavas

Hi Commando, went down today for the 'new' RC12X staging through - lovely, esp. as the sun made an appearance  .
I think that makes x7 C12 variants plus the two UC35As - not to mention the Belgian AF Falcon, RAF Tristar & Voyager. Not bad for a Friday  . Lots of photo sorting to do....Michael.

Hi, added a cropped photo of the mission markings. On the original they look like cartoon pirates. Hope this helps

Great catch,

Does anyone know what the mission markings represent? What do they use this aircraft for?

Many thanks

Do we know for certain that this is USAF? Was wondering if it was Army...who seem to favour Prestwick for transit traffic...
I am not a loony... I used to be, but I think I am better now...

Thankyou!

I think those mission marks are stylised skulls and they look very familiar from an Xbox FPS Game. Can't remember which though.

I think this type is mainly involved with missions in to unprepared strips inserting/supplying/extracting various people and things. Probably an AFRICOM aircraft? They don't talk too much about what they get up to.

Yes, I think you have it with that. I reckon this skull design is used in one of the CoDs somewhere along the way.

Oh - and - that aircraft looks ideally suited to parachuting with the slide up side door.

Just wondering if the serial 86022 has a significance ? 86022 was also a fake serial code givien to one of the prototype Raptors YF22's

Think the Punisher icon side swipes are just about perfect for this one :ninja:

Do the slightly differing logos; the chin either points straight down or to the right as you look at them signify anything? Drops or pick ups perhaps?
