What an airbase and access is brilliant. Started on the famous (2) towers for the morning then when the sun moved around across the other side of the base.

One can see how close the towers are to the taxiway (which is kinked to go around the towers) allow for great morning photos


First to launch were some F15's






Several T4's were flying

Light prompted a move to the other side of the runway. Landing phantom with 2 QRA F15s behind

That's a base that HAS to be on the discerning enthusiast's bucket list, right?

Do those guys need to be on step ladders in that first shot though? Do those extra couple of inches on an already (what looks like) raised platform really matter - especially when it's clear that there's no fence to contend with and the railing is at waist-level?

There's some trees and bushes that obscure the view down the taxiway...steps can be useful to get these clear of the landing gear

Ah right, well then that's fair enough. It does seem a little needless from what's shown, though - then again, tbh, I'd just be buzzing to see some Japanese hardware.

We didn't use steps but there were only 3 of us so no space issues. If there are quite a few people, steps would make it possible for another row of guys to get shots just don't get too close to the exit or lean too heavily on the rails!
The bushes didn't get in our way on the tower closest to the ramp.

The first 17 photos were all taken from the wooden towers, the "peace towers". The towers platform is not large and probably 4 or so can fit in a row comfortably hence the ladders allow another 3/4 behind to get good photos over the front photographer's heads albeit everyone is very polite and we were mindful of others being there for the morning photo opportunities. The ladders also allowed some alternative pics over the security fence from ground level(as per the head on shot of the 2 returning F4's).
