VAC at Turweston 9 April

Post by TJJ »

The Vintage Aircraft Club held its Spring Fly-in at Turweston on Saturday 9 April. On static display was Flying Flea G-AXPG, which is currently a joint LAA/VAC restoration project .

The Beagle Pup prototype G-AVDF also lives in one of the hangars following its long term restoration back to flying condition. It made its first flight on 8 April 1967, so had just celebrated its 55th anniversary. I was involved in laying out a book which charted its history and the epic rebuild. It was the first time I had seen the aircraft in the flesh.

One of its progeny – Beagle Pup 150 G-AXEV had flown in from its base at Staverton.

Beagle was an amalgamation of Miles and Auster, and several Austers were at the event, including G-ASTI

DH Tiger Moth G-ACDA was also in attendance

The DH60G Gipsy Moth G-ABDA is based at Turweston. It was reluctant to start when surrounded by a large group of photographers, but was eventually persuaded to go flying.
