Flying Display Poll

Post by Bodz156 »

So, I thought this might be interesting...given how many rarities & UK/RIAT first timers there are this year. Mine is 7 of them. I'm intending this to mean, for example, obviously I've seen an RAF Hawk solo before...but I've never seen the Finnish Air Force solo...so I count it....and so on.

It depends on what you count as "not seen before". I've seen the Midnight Hawks, but never a Finnish Hawk solo, so...?

So you pick it as a new one I'd have thought. If you'd seen the RAFAT but not the Midnight Hawks, for example, they'd be a new one (I know that doesn't work as an example for this year!)

Wow 😁
Let's see who has the highest number!

This is kind of meant to illustrate what a great job they've done this year in creating a new & exciting show for the enthusiast. Of the ones I've seen, the are quite a few that are only once/twice as well.

I haven't seen the QRA demo, Spanish Hornet(thanks to weather), Finnish Hawk solo, 757, SK.60, Hip/Hind Demo, Sokol, Hungarian Gripen, Silver Swallows, Baby Blue and the Mustang X-Ray pair. Big 11 for me too.

7 for me!
Excellent variety on show this year. I doubt there’ll be time for anything but a quick loo break during the flying.

I’m on 7 new-to-me acts. Not the individual aircraft involved, the acts. So I’ve seen Team 60 but a solo Sk-60 is a debut for me, same scenario with the Finnish Hawks.

The Czech helo Combo has 2 I’ve not seen display before, but I’m counting the trio as one act, as that’s what it is.

RIAT is right up my street this year. Rareties and obscurities that hark back to the spirit of Air Tattoos of the past, and as ever I’m sure it’ll be a very entertaining show.

I mean, how many shows even have the brilliant thing that is a static display any more?

In the airshow world in general I have a little rule of thumb that I consider myself lucky to see something I’ve never seen before, at any show I visit. I apply that whether it’s Rhyl or RIAT. Seven and counting means I’m well in at Fairford this year.

Yeah, I'm doing similar with the Czech helicopters. Obviously seen the Hind & I caught an Mi-171 pair one time at Kleine-Brogel, but the Sokol in Czech hands is entirely new to me...not even a static example.

The Sokol is doing a solo display? I see two acts.

A good year to make a first visit to RIAT!!

I need to change my answer, how do I change my answer? I don't actually need to obvs, just making the point that I clicked the wrong one! Add another vote to the 6+ choice!

Think it's a very clear win for "we're getting really good value for our money this year!"

Even seasoned air show goers are seeing way more than 6 new flying displays, not to mention the static park being packed with rarely seen aircraft too.
