No commentary in the FRIAT stand. No movements sheet. The backdrop in front of the FRIAT stand is abysmal for photography. The flying feels very lacklustre so far - lots of gaps and pauses.
Not a good day for me at the moment.

Does anyone know what the frequency is for commentary? Is ir broadcast on Air Tattoo Live or whatever it's called?
I will clarify, it got a lot better almost immediately after I posted this - basically the Finnish Hawk onwards. (It was also then that the only speaker I can hear from FRIAT started working).

The arrival of the Swedes and the E-4 were special moments.

Whole day was worth it for that 10 minutes of arrivals!

No, they're still in the static park, another pair did a flypast just after the E-4 arrived.

In what way? Are there big advertising hoardings or something on the opposite side of the runway?

I would rather have that as a background and an airshow than not have a show at all.

The Austrians absolutely smashed it out of the park, whilst not including the almost cobra like maneuver seen at Leuchars - it still re-confirmed their QRA demo as the best Typhoon demo in the world.

Shows just how restricted and conservative the RAF display really is - and it was performed with a pair of external tanks too!

Oh I completely agree! It turned into a very good day and fantastic to have the most special items arrive while the public were on the field!

Awesome, probably the thing I'm looking most forward too. Is it a QRA demo and then double Typhoon Display or just a QRA demo?

I don't mean just a QRA demo in a derogatory way.

Slow start but picked up quickly! Was a great day all in all! Some validations included, whats not to like.

I’m surprised no ones mentioned Zeus, I was walking into red from yellow and its one of the few times I felt my hairs raise out of concern at a show. Nervously laughed it off, but that was dodge! How it wasn’t flagged I have no idea at all!

Oh and also the Finn’s managed to make a solo hawk display more exciting than 7 red ones….cough….they were woeful (no exaggerating).

It's both, now more of a pairs display for the second half, in the days of Leuchars when it last appeared - it was billed as a dogfight!

Is the RAFAT display actually poor, or is it poor compared to a) their 9 ship display and b) The Black Eagles?

It was the worst reds display i’ve seen! Some playing catch up in formations, long gaps between maneuvers! And this judgement was made before I had even seen the Koreans!

I found them very poor at Southport last weekend as well.

Just none of the spark or finesse of pervious years. Even if you just take them as Enid and synchro.

From what I could over hear on someone's scanner, it sounds like Red 4(?) was getting a bit of stick on the radio.

What they do is clearly very difficult and they do it very well, however the display definitely lacks the dynamism of other display teams. There are a few long gaps in their display and the commentary team just can't compete with the flair of some of the other international teams, meaning the gaps really feel like dead air.

The commentator billed it as a dogfight this time. I'd describe it as BFM (Basic Fighter Manoeuvres), a rehearsed set of relative flying. I much preferred it to the French style of follow the leader or the standard opposition stuff done by the display teams. It told a story, the commentator described it well and was the display I most enjoyed today. The loss of the Hungarian Gripen was disappointing although the cloud base would have meant the dump and burn was scrubbed and the cloud was detrimental to the always excellent Black Eagles so no final carousel manoeuvre to land - one of the prettiest big team manoeuvres I've seen.

Blue sky all day tomorrow so full shows from all please.

Yeah, the reds are very disjointed. That's the 2nd time I've seen them display this year and it was just disjointed. As said above looked like some during formations were playing catch up.

Red 10 commentary was very lackluster too.
