I went to the Shrewsbury Steam Rally on Sunday. A 2.5 hour traffic jam to get in as some bright spark had set up a three-way set of roadworks traffic lights just before the entrance. Once inside there were a lot of displays to enjoy. This set of images will cover the steam part of the show.
There were steam lorries as well. This was of particular interest to me as one of my uncles worked for Sentinel in Shrewsbury as a welder.

Reminds me of the excellent and entertaining Fred Dibnah.
Wasn't there an old aviation themed movie, that featured a steam enginecalled "Dreadnought". My memory may be faulty, but it involved a technocrat type Yank, who ended up falling in love with a steam engine.

Re: Shrewsbury Steam Rally
Your memorys not completely faulty. It was The Iron Maiden. The aviation parts were fimed at Radlett. The futuristic airliner was of course a Victor. Also filmed around our local area too.cabbage wrote: ↑Mon 29 Aug 2022, 5:27 pmReminds me of the excellent and entertaining Fred Dibnah.

Many thanks, keithjs. It dates back to a time (long ago) when i could sit back and actually enjoy watching a film on TV.

Wonderful stuff! I've never done a steam fair but you tempt me.
Re: Shrewsbury Steam Rally
If you want to start big the Great Dorset Steam fair at Tarrant Hinton near Blandford Forum is the place to go. Trouble is this year it was last weekend. (you'll need the whole weekend tho'.!)FarnboroJohn wrote: ↑Thu 01 Sep 2022, 6:49 pmWonderful stuff! I've never done a steam fair but you tempt me.
There are numerous smaller events throughout the country.

Re: Shrewsbury Steam Rally
There's a decent sized one at Turvey near Bedford in a couple of weeks, the one that used to be held at Shuttleworth until they got kicked out.

This autumn is fully programmed but next year I shall definitely dip a toe in the water, maybe one of the smaller events. Thank you for the links!

Thank you for sharing these photos. Really great to see these old machines in such pristine condition. Particularly pleasing to see the mighty Tarmac Hercules steam truck, with Tarmac being my former employer.
