Russian bombers

Post by aviodromefriend »

Last week there was an QRA intercept televised here in the Netherlands involving a Russian bomber.

What struck me was that the involved bomber looked almost like it was a Hercules, and the followers of Putin had even disguised the machine as if it was one of the Dutch C-130Hs. This can't be true however, as a few minutes after that the machine had grown to about the size of a C-130H-30, so it must have gone supersonic in the meantime, like Concorde used to get longer when flying supersonic.

As a Herc can't go above Mach 1, it can't have been a real C-130. Anyone an idea about the type? It is at https://www.npostart.nl/hoogvliegers/18 ... ON_1290577 from 27:30.

Yes, of course I know in reality this has nothing to do with the Russian Air Force, just a "this can do the job too, and nobody will see the difference" attitude amongst the people involved in the filming, and multiple flights needed to get everything filmed with different airframes being sent up.

They use what is at hand and cheap.

Sky News reported on the RAF’s issues the other night with footage of the RSV C-27J demo.

I've been meaning to watch that show actually, with English subtitles obviously. Looks like good enough footage.

That PC-7 wasn't at QRA. Not even as the story was meant to be. It was at a training mission with a solo student-pilot (who wasn't cleared for solo flying, as he didn't pass the centrifuge). The pilot decided by himself to take over the intercept (that was why he was arrested for the first time since joining the RNLAF).
