Two Days on skomer island for Puffins *update*
Two Days on skomer island for Puffins *update*
Having missed the yearly trip to skomer for two years week booked early this year as you can no longer get tickets on the day.
we chose the 29th/30th of June staying in haverfordwest the weather wasn't looking good and the day we travelled down rain all the way and no boats running that day. Wednesday the 29th and the weather gods were with us with two days of sunshine. anyway i hope you enjoy looking at the results as much as i did taking them.

Re: Two Days on skomer island for Puffins
Ian, they are great. I got my first puffins near Vik on Iceland last week but my pictures are not to your standard. (I blame the very low cloud, mist, rain and gale at the time.)

I am similarly impressed. I've never yet been to Skomer but now that Maz and I are both retired it will have to go into the programme at some point if that's what can be done there. The flight shots particularly are exquisite.

What a beautiful set of images, Ian. Puffins are on my list to photograph, so I'll be researching that location. Thanks for sharing these images.
We've got a couple more return trips to the UK and Europe in us, so I'll take up your offer when the time comes.

Beautiful photos and I hope you can answer a question that always pops into my head when I see Puffins with a beak full.
Exactly how do they get that many fish in their beak at once ? Is it a case of diving into a shoal that is so dense they inevitably fill their beak in one go, or do they have a clever way of catching one at a time without dropping fish they already have hold of ?
Thankyou for sharing them.
Cheers,
Jeff

I know you think you understood what I said, but I'm not sure you realise that what I said is not what I meant.
