EU261 Lovely Jubbly

Post by Zoom »

not sure if anyone knew about this

any flight from the EU arriving later than scheduled arrival is allowed compensation (they handed out information forms as we boarded at Corfu over 3 hours late)

€250, in the case of a type 1 flight;
€400, in the case of a type 2 flight;
€600, in the case of a type 3 flight.

Just had confirmation that £350 each is winging its way into our bank accounts :imp:

Presumably the UK lost this when we left? another Brexit Bonus

It relates to flights operating in the UK, the country of the operator isn't relevant (i.e. US airlines have to pay up too)

doesn't sound like a non EU registered plane flying from the UK to the EU would qualify

The regulation applies to any passenger:

departing from an airport located in the territory of a Member State to which the Treaty applies;
The protection accorded to passengers departing from or to an airport located in a Member State should be extended to those leaving an airport located in a third country for one situated in a Member State, when a Community carrier operates the flight and where a community carrier is defined as any carrier licensed to operate within that community.
departing from an EU/EEA member state, or
travelling to an EU/EEA member state on an airline based in an EU/EEA member state

EU261 still applies to flights from/to the UK - the legislation was transposed into UK law as part of Brexit.

Colloquially known as ‘UK261’.

If you want more info, Google ‘flyertalk BAEC EC261’. The forum there is British-Airways specific, but that thread has lots of info for anyone affected.
