I'm not biting, he only wants me to bite. I'm not going to do it.
But yes I already have.

Re: RIAT 2023 wish list
Just think. We could have RAF, Italian (AF and Navy), USAF, Norwegian, Dutch, and maybe even USN or USMC (if there's a carrier in the area) examples present. A whole row of them!

Re: RIAT 2023 wish list
I think I'd rather have Italian AF Tornado (or AMX if one still is hanging around), USAF A-10, Norwegian Falcon 20, P-3, Sea King or 412, Dutch G-IV or Do228 before they're gone or even a PC-7.
If the Italian Navy were to make a return, let it please be a Harrier (preferably a twin-stick after the recent single-seat Spanish appearances) or a Helicopter (NH90, AW101 or AB-212).
And, if there was to be a Carrier in the area, examples of a MH-60R, MH-60S, E-2D, C-2A (they can't have much longer left), F/A-18E/F and E/A-18G would be great additions to the static park, but even better would be a CH-53E, MV-22B, UH-1Y, AH-1Z and AV-8B off an Amphibious task group (USS Kearsarge was in the Bay of Biscay for RIAT this year, if only it was to have been a bit closer).
I, like many, have nothing against the F-35 (I've seen the RAF, USAF and USMC examples before), but for now, if nations are so kind to send aircraft to RIAT, I'd rather it was the types with less time left with us. There are so many different types based in even just Western Europe alone, to see as many of those legacy types before they are gone is perhaps my biggest wish for RIAT 2023.

Professor, Mikes post is tinged with sarcasm, as Caper detests F-35’s

Delicious.
Imagine how tough it’ll be choosing a Concours d’Elegance winner amongst that lot.

Well, if there was to be an F-35 meet purely to spite you, Caper, then perhaps we could have one of the US Aggressor examples or the colourful prototype (if it's still flying).capercaillie wrote: ↑Wed 24 Aug 2022, 8:41 amThen recognising which one won and handing the trophy out correctly!
Perhaps the F-35 theme would be best saved for 2026 (20 years since first flight) - by then there will be even more of them, and much less of everything else.
And, yes,
- I did get that (I was just going off on a tangent).

Based in the south of France, one of the ARES MB339CD (ex RNZAF) would be good to see. Scramble have in the past suggested the company is looking to expand its operations and acquire Mirage 2000 - https://www.scramble.nl/military-news/n ... irage-2000.

One of these would sell a few tickets.

Yawn and how many of those are we going have to endure through the decades of F-35 monotony ahead... oh joyProfessor_M wrote: ↑Wed 24 Aug 2022, 9:12 amWell, if there was to be an F-35 meet purely to spite you, Caper, then perhaps we could have one of the US Aggressor examples or the colourful prototype (if it's still flying).capercaillie wrote: ↑Wed 24 Aug 2022, 8:41 amThen recognising which one won and handing the trophy out correctly!

Even in days of multiple F-104 or F-16 users or line ups of C-130s, they're all fairly instantly recognisable who operates them. With the montone stencilled F-35s, all of the same colour, devoid of unit markings, its the airshow equivalent of guess who?
Look at the photo threads on here with the Dutch ones for example, would it be possible to make them more anonymous?

Re: RIAT 2023 wish list
Unless it's in a special colour scheme, does it matter what Country it's from.....a C-130 is a C-130, an F-16 is an F-16, a Typhoon is a Typhoon, etc.
And it's become increasingly common for them to all be a boring shade of grey anyway.

I really hope they manage to get the B-52 to do some flypasts next year. The current bomber task force deployment has allowed airpower22, Bournemouth, NATO days and Uppsala to get the B-52 fly-bys.

Re: RIAT 2023 wish list
Just having a B-52 attend would be quite good from its recent record at RIAT (Cancelled 2022, Appeared 2019, Cancelled 2018, Appeared 2017). A B-2, B-1 or B-21 as well would be great.bobby 1211 wrote: ↑Thu 01 Sep 2022, 4:01 pmI really hope they manage to get the B-52 to do some flypasts next year. But yes, flying would be even better.

Coming home from Zeltweg, I thought the Red Bull Cobra was really cool. Sounds awesome!

I would love to that in the UK - I should think the Red Bull one would be the most likely Cobra we'll see in the UK - certainly if we just consider the earlier variants (not the USMC or the future Czech examples of the AH-1Z).

Perhaps one for a Friday-only “industry showcase” kind of thing, but the AW609 display would be pretty cool for uniqueness value.

Re: RIAT 2023 wish list
Surely one of the oddest looking helicopters out there is the Ka-27/31 family - I'd love to see it at RIAT.
Whilst an Indian Navy Ka-31, flown in inside an Il-76 would be amazing, I sense it very unlikely. And I doubt the Algerian or Azerbaijani Air Force, nor the Indian Navy or any of the many South Korean operators of the type are likely to bring one over, so there are three other possible contenders.
I fear climate change may mean that the first two possibilities will be busier than ever before next July - Portuguese and Spanish firefighting KA-32 - and therefore unlikely to be able to hop over to the UK for a week, that leaves us just with HeliSwiss and their Ka-32.
I'm sure it would be a good publicity visit, perhaps drumming up some interest in their services, and it would certainly be different type.
If not in the static display, a display of its lifting prowess would be good - it could quite easily lift an empty L-39 or other light jet type (at least with a 5 tonne lifting capacity maximum, it sounds like it could on paper.

The F-35 demo in wet conditions please. (Seeing a video of the Sanicole display brought me here)

Wishing for an F-35 is bad enough, wishing for wet conditions at an IAT event. You disgust me.

Re: RIAT 2023 wish list
Surely not, a 5 minute passing shower for the display might just be acceptable, but it mustn't be around lunchtime - the lunchtime downpour on the Friday of Farnborough this year made for a rather damp egg sandwich.
If the MetOffice can give us some moody clouds in the sky, but to not pass over the airfield, that might be good.
