Sion Hunters and Tigers, Switzerland

Post by Kevin Martin »

After a sucsessful trip to Switzerland for the Axalp event last year another trip to out there was the first thing on my to do list for this year. Again choosing to go during Axalp week to ensure the bases were going to be active, myself and James Feneley flew off once again. During the week the plan was to take a look at the bases at Aplnach, Meiringen, Payerne and Sion as well as a day at the Axalp range.

The weather during the week was not always the greatest but did include one stunning October Wednesday which coincided with our trip to Sion. And what a day that turned out to be.......

After a 5am start to make sure we was in place for the first launch at 8.50am the first aircraft we saw on the ground was 3 Hunter's hidden away in the corner of the base.
Will they or wont they fly we thought? They only went and flew 6 time each!!! Not to mention almost 40 sorties from the F5 Tigers and a host of other action.

So, enough waffle and here's some photo's from a memorable day..........

That's a brilliant set, especially the 3/4 head-ons of the Hiunter climb outs.

Wonderful set of shots, I'm not sure I'll post mine now. You obviously did Wednesday and I oped for the much pooer weather on Thursday. I will probably post the Vampire which also flew unless you've got a shot.

Hi Vixen1,

I guess you win some you lose some. I see you you had the weather at Axalp in your favour where as I had it quite dull. I was lucky to get a full day in good weather at Axalp last year which is why I choose Sion! There are a couple of Vampire shots amoungst this lot by the way!

PS....it was you I was talking to at the airport on Friday waiting to go home?
