RIAT - Defence Cuts Biting..
(1) We all know the Tonkas are getting on a bit, but Duck tape is surely a step too far....
Or (2) We've had "Horse" now we have "Jet Jockey"...on a very broad saddle

Re: RIAT - Defece Cuts Biting..
The green tape's used to prevent rain seeping in through the joints where the canopy meets the fuselage, as shown here at a moist Northolt in March of this year..

I think the Tornados have always had probs with water leaking through the canopy.
I remember a guy doing the same thing on a GR1 at Mildenhall many moons ago. He was taping up the rear of the the canopy (at the hinge).

Thanks; I am obliged to those who know; it does look very curious!

Seen the same at EINN when we had German AF and Marine Tonka's, they politely explained "European Aircraft, European Problems, Rain gets in"

I think I read about this fairly recently. Is it not for someone who has QRA and escorted 5+ Russian 'invaders'?
Chris.

The canopy seel on Tornado is an inflatable bladder running around the canopy. It is pressurised with air from the engines (or possibly the APU iirc) If nothing is running, the bladder deflates and there is a gap all round the canopy.

GR4 crew... doubt it.

If you look at the crew in question, and the patch on his other arm, you'll notice he's from 111(F)sqn who operate Tornado F3s. The picture is him sitting on an F3 because both F3 and GR4s both get the tape put on their canopy and the GR4 pic was just to show how it was also done to the GR4s at Northolt.

Sorry, it's still early.
Re: RIAT - Defence Cuts Biting..
Check out the noses of any of our Puma helicopters because they always appear taped up.
