Hellenic Corsairs-"The Masters from CW116 Araxos"

Post by Crossbow »

Hello

Back from a week to some Hellenic Airfields.Earlier this Year as for many that Trip was denied first,
then late June they changed their mind and good old Peter(Thx for the Company)and me had a green to go.
We started the week off in a returning Visit (after 2008 ) to Araxos Combat Wing 116.And what a Start that was.
Knowing that the good old Corsairs were still going strong,we expected some 7-8 Corsairs left to train F-16 Pilots who
arrived here last Year....but very wrong. The dominating Jets here are still the Corsairs.Operationell we noticed
36 active ones..!!!Flying was very good (about 20) and we were very happy.Thx to the Commanding Officers,
HAFGS,+Pressofficer...a friendly Lady for a change + and all others giving us a perfect time.
I will post the Vipers from 335 Mira"Tigers" later in a different Report.

On with the Araxos-Masters over the Airfield 336 Mira "Olympos"-Corsairs going strong

the last GAF F-4 deployment down there.

Fabulous stuff. Refreshing news that they may be around a while  . Given the money troubles in Greece, did they have their begging bowls out?

Super shots of a lovely subject.

Good to hear there's still potentially life left in them, I expected them to be on the verge of retirement now.

Great stuff, Hans! The last of the Corsairs flying anywhere in the world, it's great to see them in action. Well done, sir!
