A Tribute to Thunder City - More Pics Added!
Some pics I thought I'd share in celebration of the people who made it their business to keep these aircraft flying.

We are truely going to miss the greatness of the Mike Beachey Head operations down on Thunder City, I think I say it on the behalf of all forumites, Thank you for the last few years of hope and giving the world the chance to see these truley wonderful aircraft where they belong

Lovely photos!
Such a shame about Thunder City!
Out of interest, what was the point in them flying the 2 single seat Lightnings, as they couldnt do the pleasure flights...

Re: A Tribute to the Lightnings and Buccaneers from Thunder City
The F.6s were only bought for (a) Mike's pleasure And (b) For the express purpose of displaying them at airshows so the South African public could see them flying.
Having said that, although XR773 was brought to airworthy state at the start, XP693 was only brought to airworthy status in 2006, when all four Lightnings were displayed in formation. That was awesome to see
XP693 has been seen in only two airshows in it's flying life at Thunder City. I have been fortunate enough to be at both events

Fantasic shots of a pair of gorgeous aircraft. Does anyone have any idea what will happen to the airframes?

Okay .............
I don't post on here very often, but sometime a series of images just 'hit the spot'!
This set is probably one of the most evocative sets I have seen for many, many years!
There are a million photogs who would have 'killed' to have been there! Me for one!
Absolutely, brilliant and totally THE best set I have seen on here for a very long time!
