its an overused word but that is awesome!

Re: Civilian Saab Viggen might fly this summer!
I know it was an integral feature of the Viggen but I think thats the first time I've seen one with the fin folded!
I note it's been stripped - dare I ask what the scheme will be? cough ..splinter camo ..cough

Now as someone that has never seen such an aircraft fly. If this one gets off the ground by mid May maybe late May.... I'll have to rethink my travel plans for the summer.
I forgot to add.... P.S. "Splinter Camo" cough cough nudge nudge wink wink.

Brilliant
Now I'm going against the grain and saying the bare metal scheme was better! Would certainly photograph better!

The Viggen is down to you at Jersey this year. It the fog stays away!

Re: Civilian Saab Viggen might fly this summer!
She (37098, civilian reg: SE-DXN) will probably remain in bare metal finish, as the AJ 37:s looked during their first years at F7 Såtenäs.
She used to be AJS 37 7-52 "Gustav 52"
First flight? Well....the 75th Anniversary of Saab isn´t to far away is it ( no I don´t mean the air show in June)

Re: Civilian Saab Viggen might fly this summer!
The colour scheme chosen might depend on the aircraft’s End-User Certificate (assuming it has one).
NAM’s certificate for its Viggen stipulates that it must retain its markings i.e. the splinter camouflage scheme.
As mentioned on another forum “Viggen cockpit viewing is currently being evaluated (new cockpit opener) as part of a plan to undertake some mini ‘Saab Tours’ in this 75th Anniversary Year of the company i.e. Viggen, Draken and Safir, which are all displayed at Newark. The cockpit opening team is still waiting for the formal launch of such a project, which is being slightly held up as many people are busy trying to sort out a few impending projects!” That forum also contains some recent cockpit views of NAM’s Viggen.

Did you ever shoot a splinter camo Viggen?! Bare metal would have terrible reflections too...
Only just noticed its an AJ rather than JA.. odd seeing as there were a couple of flyable JAs until recently - presume these are still Air Force owned along with the SK?

Yes, I was lucky enough to see (and attempt to photograph) all the schemes, I think a shot of an aircraft turning and burning with the light glinting is far more dramatic.

I love SAAB aircraft and the thought of a Viggen and a Draken in the air, well, wow! I'd make the trip to Scandinavia purely for that!

'Im lucky enough to have seen The Viggen in full anger mode while displaying in the past but the chance to hear that Big Volvo rumbling again would be brilliant

Paper work and weather permitting (and a happy, healthy beast) the Viggen will fly tomorrow afternoon.
Re: Civilian Saab Viggen might fly this summer!
I hope the caa aren't an*l and allow a trip to the uk. Having said that, I've never seen the swedish airforce historic flight here but wish they would.
Good luck to the team, and hope to see a proper aircraft back flying!

What a stupid stupid comment JetA1, I have worked with the CAA and the only issue for them iis SAFETY silly remarks about them being an*l as you put it are beyond a joke.
The CAA are here to ensure anything flying over your home, workplace, kids school etc is safe to do so, when its no its because of a genuine safety or legal worry. Some people still think the CAA are here to stop anyone or anything flying nothing could be further from the truth.

Re: Civilian Saab Viggen might fly this summer!
Well said indeed mixedgrill. As someone who works in aviation safety and comes into close contact with the CAA, it infuriates me how appallingly rude some ill-informed people are about an aviation regulatory authority who quite rightly, have everyone's safety as their number one priority.

Now how sweet is that? I really do hope to see this aircraft this summer as I have never seen one... Not even on the ground. If this Viggen is on the display circut this summer. Is there any reason why it would not be able to fly at a show like RIAT? I'm not trying to start a debate on safety and all that. I don't know what the regulations are. Could it fly and display like the Vulcan in the UK?
Had to edit... It was a fast post and run as I'm running late for work.
