LHR Myrtle Avenue on BBC website
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19045365
Myrtle Avenue is a "spotters" paradise.
However, as noted by myself and others LHR is in the grip of The Great Olympic Biz-Jet Drought! Not one government or private biz-jet flight into LHR for 2 weeks at least. Unheard of in my memory of LHR movements, and that goes back to 1976! The "spotters" paradise would appear to be a misnomer regarding "interesting" visitors or anything out of the norm, and I include the Bulgarian E190 that has been mentioned as a visitor..
Anyway, enjoy the video...

I almost showed the article to my colleagues but after watching the video thought better of it!
I get enough ridicule as it is.

What's a "normal enthusiast"? To most of the general public being an aviation enthusiast of any kind is sufficient proof that one is not "normal".
nothing is confirmed at a show until its u/c hits the tarmac or it is running in for its display.....
Re: LHR Myrtle Avenue on BBC website
It starts with writing numbers and letters in a pad and ends with wearing flight suits with patches (or khaki coloured gear) at airshows. I will let others fill in the bits inbetween.
Re: LHR Myrtle Avenue on BBC website
LHR is in the grip of a drought simply because:
A) a landing fee at the field is in excess of £500...
B) Handling is charged per 10 min period on the ground and is 4 times the above figure

I believe there is a drought of biz-jet and VIP movements into LHR is because the authorities have halted them during the Olympic period and forcing them into other airports allowing the customs officials at LHR to concentrate on the expected increase of inbound passengers and handling the arrival of Olympic athletes with as few delays as possible.

I believe Tony is correct. I also heard that equipment upgrades (i.e. larger aircraft on existing schedules) were banned for the same reasons.

Hounslow council obviously saw the article as well as they had their parking wardens at Myrtle Avenue and Cains Lane today....at Cains Lane if you park even a miniscule amount on the grass verge (well actually where the road stops and becomes a muddy verge - no footpath) on the right hand side of the road they'll give you a parking ticket..presumably on the lines of obstructing the verge

Both Tony O and Porkscratching are correct..the drought is nothing to do with the charges but with the blocking of all non scheduled flights during the Olympic period

Do you think the Dubai Air Wing would fly into Stansted if they could pay to get into Heathrow?

Again it is not a case of the pricing being upped during the Olympic period..it's a block of executive movements during the Olympic period..the quote below is from HAL themselves
"VIP passengers, such as Heads of State, will be able to utilise our VIP
facilities. Due to lack of airfield capacity at Heathrow, charter flights
and private jets will use other airports such as Stansted."
This came into effect I believe from 16th July..the normal daily handful of exec jets were still operating in and out seemingly regardless of Heathrow having priced itself out of the market up to that date

And further to the above regarding executive movements a block was also put on LHR scheduled carriers upping to larger equipment on flights unless already prearranged

What they really need down there is a new spotters roof terrace area like the old Terminal 2 Roof Terrace or Queen's Building.

Dont forget the sad loons whose trousers have had an argument with their shoes, argue about con numbers, dribble and still live at home when they are in their 40s and wonder why they are virgins!!
