On board the “IKE”. A day in the life of CVW-7 (Updated)

Post by bigcrow »

On the 12th July 2012 I was given the great privilege to embark on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) in the Mediterranean Sea. An amazing experience. A full report on the carrier can be found on this link:- http://www.touchdown-aviation.com/repor ... cvn-69.php

My ride out and back from the “IKE”, thank you VRC-40 Det III

Much awaited and you certainly didn't disappoint old chap!

Is it me, or did the 'Rampagers' jets catch your eye! I found that '131' didn't fly that much!

Terrific work - the VFA-83 CAG Hornet about to take the wire gets my vote - but all are superb.

Magnificent action photos Stuart - the views forward and to the rear of taking off and landing aircraft are top dollar - thanks for sharing

Fabulous set Stu from what must have been a wonderful trip. Great mix of shots captures the action really well with the deck crew, steam, smoke and sea adding to the scene.
Did the COD remain on deck while you were on board and no sign of any rotary or are they all just out of shot?
Good luck to whoever chooses POTW.

Thanks Ian. Regarding the COD it stayed on board during our duration & brought us back to Souda in the evening. As for the SH-60's two flew, haven't got round to editing those yet...

Brilliant, especially the Prowler. Beautiful colour scheme.

Memeories for me of a trip out to the John F Kennedy in 1976 from Lossiemouth with a pocket instamatic! Managed a rather noisy night stop and witnessed a night launch to boot. I was air traffic at the time and flew out on the COD S-2 I think it was.

Very nice. I need to investigate how you get carrier visits! I still can't get used to the "Jolly Rogers" being in Hornets. Miss the Tomcat.
