Leuchars, 8/10/12

Post by Stonefaction »

Ok, I'm a bit out of practice at this aircraft photography thing, having not bothered much with it (except Leuchars airshow arrivals/show day) for almost 3 years, but for a wee change yesterday I thought I'd have a nosey at what was happening at my "local" base. The photos maybe aren't technically perfect, but I like this selection best of what I got, so here's the results, (well some of them) and in no particular order....

Image
1. Tornado GR4 heads back to Marham.

Image
2. P-3 gets airborne.

Image
3. Strobing Poseidon.

Image
4. Luftwaffe Tornado return.

Image
5. Orion line-up.

Image
6. Head-on Typhoon.

Image
7. Tornado trio taxiing back.

Image
8. Poseidon landing.

Image
9. Strobing Typhoon.

Image
10. Camo Tornado departs.

Image
11. Light on dark.

Image
12. Orion parked up.

Image
13 Close Call for Curlews.

Image
14. Old Smokey.

Image
15. Turning north.

Image
16. Poseidon taxies in.

Image
17. Mean and moody.

Image
18. I can see for miles....

Image
19. Tornado turn.

Image
20. Highlights.

Image
21. Orion getting airborne.

Image
22. Running in.

Image
23. Tornado take-off.

Image
24. Catching the light.

Image
25. Reflective Poseidon.

Image
26. Climbing out.

Image
27. Break to land.

Image
28. Late afternoon light.

Image
29. Camo Tornado comes back.

Image
30. Heading west.

Image
31. Light and shade.

Thanks for taking the time to click the link and have a quick look (you are one of a particularly discerning minority  ). Comments are always welcome, especially the positive ones......

Enjoy

Baz

That is one hell of a set. The editing really brings them out nicely - fantastic contrast. "Typhoon head-on" and the last are my favourites.

Thanks, Chris. Incidentally, the two you mentioned needed hardly any editing done. The light was superb at that point - a mostly very dark sky with just a small (and closing) gap through which the sun was still shining and illuminating bits of the airfield. Fortunately, the Typhoons came in while it was still good light.

That last shot is very special! Great use of light and shadows throughout making for very dramatic images

Some absolute cracking photographs there. The light is gorgeous - my favourite would be the Typhoon on the runway, but the Orion heading off into the dark is very nice too.

Thanks, folks. Glad those of you who have bothered to have a look appear to have liked what you have found. If only I'd met/knew more than 2 or 3 folk on here......

Thanks, Steve. Not sure I'll be making a habit of it though.
Trevster, yeah.....I'm not sure quite how that happened. It doesn't always (as you've possibly noticed)...... Funnily enough, I was talking to a UKAR member while I was taking some of these and he hasn't left a comment.....(nor has the regular poster that I do actually know). So maybe knowing more folk wouldn't actually have helped bump the views up a bit.....

I'd say that the burst of light on the Typhoon (number 31) is a worthy Picture of the Week contender to match your fine E3 at the airshow shot.

Do you mean me?

You dont need me to blow wind up yir erse! And anyway, ive learnt all i know about taking pics from you!!!

Couple of the atmospheric pics seem to be a wee bit noisy but i expect you upped the ISO on these. Green Tonka shots are my favourites!

About time too, where have you been?......
The additional noise in a couple of the darker ones were the result of having to crop in quite far (coupled with my lazy processing regime, using capture NX2 - if it takes longer than about 30 secs to tidy up then it's not worth the effort  ).

Thanks, FB. That's why I said "some of these".
I think I've finally sussed out just how the views/comments thing on here actually works, but I'm keeping it to myself.
