The worst of the three airforcedays venues BY FAR!!!

Absolutely no view on the runway, as the static will be positioned between the runway and the crowdline.

BTW the dates are June 14 and 15, not 15 and 16.

Don't hold your breath about that Lightning, Polls indicate that political circumstances will change next September in Holland, and one of the only two really pro-JSF parties will be minimised. That is if Holland's participation in this money eating program isn't stopped even earlier. Since the big blonde danger has withdrawn his support to the cabinet there is a majority to quit, and some (mostly left-wing)parties are eager to chop the F-35 even before the elections this September.

This is definitely on my 'to do list' for 2013! The Dutch never make a disappointing show!

Isn't Volkel just like Leeuwarden in regards to runway positioning? The sun is behind AM and early PM but gradually gets a little to the left of the runway by the end of the day. IIRC at Volkel as well, the static and flying participants are parked in front of you.

Okay, it's not as good as Leeuwarden....agreed, but not as bad as you state either.
I have made runway shots there without problems every time. However, you have to get there when the gates open to get a decent spot. I managed to get one without problems though.

It's true that the static is there as well, but there is plenty of room to get some shots of. Additionally, some of the aircraft taxi past right in front of you, which is a nice bonus!

I would say, put it on your calendar :yahoo:

Will a 70-300 be enough? Also, I dont understand what you mean about the static being put in front of you? So it is just a line of static??

If you look at the turkish star picture, you would be standing at the grass bit in the foreground. Then there is one of the two parallel runways, which is partly used as a taxi track (see turkish star) and as the static line up (see tornado in the background). Then there is a strip of grass again and then the second runway which is used for take-off and landing.

300mm is not enough for the runway, I would say. The picture of the mig-29 is taken at 420mm (sigma 100-300 + 1.4x extender).

Jeez.
One Year to go to this event, first I even heard of it.
More than enough time to do some of your own research.
Airliners.net, Airfighters.com, scramble , google earth if you can see the base and it hasnt been pixeled out.

Yep you are right! Sorry!

Already booked this tour for next year, purely because it involves Le Bourget too, so any good at volkel is a bonus!!

Wonder if we will start to hear some news about this show soon?
Speaking to a few dutch friends, certainly looks like it could be an airshow not to be missed!

Within a month or two, if Bureau Air Display follows the same procedures as formerly, just as soon as the display items start to announce their dates, news will follow about shows they will attend.

Solo Türk has it on the schedule. Better hope they will find out in time the show is at Volkel instead of Leeuwarden.

Nop, this is normal for the RNLAF usually only 1-2 months before the airshow. F16 demoteam and Apache demoteam are standard.

Soloturk http://www.soloturk.tsk.tr/EN/GosteriTakvimi.aspx?ID=5
Patrouille Suisse http://www.sgvolkel.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5926
MIG29 http://www.scramblemagazine.nl/show-dates/europe/date

At EHVK (Volkel) you don't have a good light, mostly against the sun (check your ISO) and there is always a static blocking the runway. (pity)
If you're standing against the crowdbarrier 100-200mm is enough, but 100-400mm is better, unless you are on the VIP grandstand.

EHLW (Leeuwarden) and EHVK are the opposite, EHLW has a better sunlight in de morning and midday for photoshoots.
