How will you be taking in the show this year?

Post by DanH »

Good afternoon everyone.

At around this time last year I asked you all how you will be viewing the show, and the topic generated lots of responses and revealed that we all have our own methods and indeed traditions for how we like to view RIAT. From those people who were travelling thousands of miles from abroad and were staying the week having invested in a FRIAT package, to those who lived fairly locally and were just planning on attending one of the show days.

As for myself this year, I will be arriving on Tuesday and setting up camp at the Totterdown Hill campsite. From there I'll be watching all the arrivals and practice displays and will be going into the show on Saturday. On Sunday I'll be watching the show from the campsite and will head home on Monday afternoon after watching some of the departures.

So, how about the rest of you?

Tuesday to Monday at Kempsford , from where I'll be watching the arrivals & PDs.
Saturday & Sunday in the show itself { Non-FRIAT } unless it's grotty wet weather , in which case I may decide to watch it from the campsite.

Show day Sunday. One year, when it's not term time, I'm going on the Monday too (nearly but not quite this year as a silly 3 day week after RIAT weekend  ).

That is actually a good idea. BTW I just realised my reply to this thread is going to be the most boring of all

Tuesday to Monday at Kempsford.

Wednesday and Thursday p+v.

Friday either p+v or FRIAT grandstand depending on how I feel at the time!

Saturday I'll be with my family on the showground somewhere towards the eastern end.

Sunday and Monday in the grandstand.

Mach 3 member. :)

At the moment it's looking like Sunday only, unless I can get cover for work then I'll be going down for the arrivals!

Annoying isn't it? Can you get cover for Monday and go for departures instead - all of them in one day then!

DVD (or Blu-Ray) when it comes out; until then, looking at photos on UKAR.

Another transatlantic venture might be in the cards next year, either to RIAT or another show, but this year's aerial adventures alas must remain firmly in North America.

Going on the Saturday with my Dad and sister, and, money permitting might make the trip up for Monday departures as well, but that's not likely at this stage. That's a question I wanted to ask, I'll most likely be coming up separately (they're in London, I'm in Exeter) - will this be an issue with parking? I can't quite remember the parking arrangements from last year so I hope I'll be able to park up myself.

This year, unfortunately - I shall be enjoying RIAT courtesy of the photos posted here.......

If circumstances change I might risk coming down for the arrivals at the P&V wed-fri and just slum it in the back of the van at fly-by camping for a couple of nights, but I have to be in Dumfries & Galloway from the Saturday...

I'm my own boss and we (me and my other half/business partner) don't know anyone in the area that we can trust with £500 for the day, plus running the business itself.

Only ever now go to the P&V on Monday as I only collect numbers and the main show days have priced me out.

Go to P&V East for the arrivals days, enjoy the US BBQ if happening this year.

Weekend will be split between being in the FRIAT Enclosure and going around the static and then in the Enclosure for deaprtures on Monday

Oh and this year I will make sure I have ear defenders with me. Not because of the aircraft but because of the moaners :handbag:
