UKAR Virtual Airshow

Post by G-CVIX »

Hello all, just trying to gauge some interest as to whether or not it would be fun/possible to run a virtual airshow using fs2004/fsx. It was something that I used to do a lot a few years ago and can be a great amount of fun!

If you dont know the basics of online multiplayer/airshows then that's something we can talk about here.

If anyone is interested, post here and we can go from there.

I'm quite interested, I love flying on FSX, I usually go on it to do solo displays with either the Extra 330, or the Christen Eagle. Also the Lynx Mk7/9. If anyone would like to fly as the BBMF, I have the BBMF Lancaster 'Thumper MkIII'. Would mostly want to fly the Lynx, or a Solo P-51D. Not too good at formation flying though.

Must admit display flying isn't my speciality!

Spectator is fine of course!

The usual set up is that there is a frame rate friendly model that is designated as the spectator aircraft, so everyone switches to that when watching in order to save frame rates, and only the person displaying is actually in their aircraft. :)

Usually people are allowed to display 1-3 aircraft, each for about 10 minutes throughout the afternoon (start time is generally about 5/6 GMT to make it possible for those across the pond to join as well) but it's pretty free. If people don't turn up on the day there's the option for others to do impromptu displays in the missing person's aircraft so that no aircraft are lost.

I'm going to post this on the simviation forum where I used to do this a lot more and perhaps we can make it a cross forum show to build the numbers up!

Hmm, not sure if I'll do it, I've just flew on my flight sim, and sad to say, I've got worse. So a no go for me, sorry.

If we cam sort it out, im well up for it. I just went on simv and my most posted topic was the "warbirds airshow"... 2006!!! Blimey time flies!

Tommy, I wouldn't rule yourself out too quickly! Its very low pressure / good fun and if it happens it'll be a long way away so plenty of time to practice up :).

I will pre emptively take a flanker of some sort btw.

Does it mean we'd have to meet up somewhere, or do we just sit at our own computers and fly?

We'd all be on our own computers in our own houses! Just connected through a server just like any other online gaming :)

I'd be interested in this, I've been practicing my Cobra maneuver in a Russian Knights SU-27 lately and I have to say... most of the time I manage to stay in the air!

If I'm too much of a menace in that I can do a flypast in a VC-10 or just sit on the grass in my Sabre!

In that case, I will hopefully take part in this, but only able to use FSX.

Mosquito is very hard to display, currently working up a display routine for the P-51D and Jet Provost.

I used to have a display routine in my fs9 Vulcan that I used to call my bat sh*t crazy routine. It wasn't particularly realistic, it involved an inverted crowd-rear arrival at about 50ft, followed by a climb to 5,000ft into a tail slide. Like I said, not particularly realistic.

Look forward to seeing a sole display aircraft perform a gippo break.
