War Thunder

Post by FastJetsBest »

Hey,

I was just wondering does anyone play War Thunder? It's a massively multiplayer online combat flight simulator. Just started it a few days ago, good fun never done the full real battles before. Seems like it could be harder then the arcade mode. Joystick might help alot.

Seems like many more updates and new planes/skins to come.

I have been playing this for some time, I mostly fly in arcade battles - using a joystick in arcade is a waste of time.

My username in game is GhostRider117 if you want someone to fly with - haven't been playing too much lately due to work.

I downloaded it yesterday too. Currently Rank 3 on the British aircraft. I've only tried flying Arcade battles at the moment, but even that is great fun.

LNSE492 if anyone wants to add me.

How did you get it going on a Mac, it just tells me the file is corrupted.

I must say, I didn't know the game. Looked into it and it looks nice! However, I'm also running on a Mac, so I would like to know how to install it!

Think I will download this soon. It seems to fit into the game rather than sim category, and as such the emphasis is bound to be on
fun rather than 100% historical accuracy.
Dan, for a real challenge try strapping yourself into the P 51 in DCS World. Ignoring the modern day setting, the flying is as real as it gets ...

No partitions or bootcamp....

Do a Google search for Paul the Tall and download the Mac wrapper, then torrent the full game update and copy across the missing elements. It's best to do it overnight as its a 5gb download. You'll have to play at 30fps or the low quality setting but it still looks good and smooth. There is a video you can watch as well with instructions.

You don't stand a chance in a dogfight against anyone flying with a mouse. They can turn on a sixpence.

It's very annoying playing historic battles, because its the mouse players who come out on top. Just have to try and avoid combat, but I've yet to find any bombers to attack in historic so much of the time is spent just circling and RTBing to repair flak damage.

Having said that, arcade games on the mouse are very good fun, but the mouse should be limited to arcade exclusively.

Anybody fancy joining DanO and I in some historic battles? We both have headsets.

This was much better when it was "World of Planes" and the arcade mode didn't exist :(

It gets worse then, it sounds! Back to LOMAC and DCS A-10 I suppose...

(One day I'll be able to fly the Warthog in a mission without breaking it)

We can always set up our own custom battles to avoid the mouse brigade - a UKAR Squadron vs AIs.

DanO1978 wrote:Played some more historical battles with Dan tonight. Don't know if we just got lucky, but it *seemed* that the playing field was much more level tonight with more players appearing to be on joysticks in the battles, meaning for some excellent close turning dogfighting. Perhaps it was just that it's relatively late and the kiddywinks had all gone to bed...

Terrific fun last night. Claimed my first three kills (arcade kills with a mouse don't count, just a quick way to level up) - an He111 over Malta, a PBY Catalina over Korea and then a Fiat G.50 over Berlin. Last one was very good - he was the last aircraft left on his team and was making a low level dash back to the flak cover at his home base. I was maxed out in my Spitfire MkI to keep pace and managed to shoot his wing off just a kilometre or so from his base, with my last few bullets.

Less fun was colliding with DanO in mid-air as we both turned in to pursue different targets.

A superb game with a lot of depth, non arcade mode really appeals. Without big text tags etc! Just downloaded a minute ago, superb! Let's get some UKAR matches going, proper missions not barrages of bullets in a mile square. (don't have a clue how to do that though!). I guess Gaijin are banking on in game purchases, which seems to be the prevalent business model within gaming now.

Just managed to get this downloaded and working on my iMac. Have done some of the tutorial flying, but can't get my joystick to work atthe moment.

Am definitely up for some multiplayer fun though.

Cheers

On in 20 minutes... I hope - download is going quite slowly.

I used to play a lot of Sturmovik, so we'll see how this goes.
