Lightning XS422

Apologies if this has been covered before, but something flashed up somewhere and I had a look so thought I'd pass it on and include a poll for fun.

They are asking for £180,000 which will get them in the air. Seems a bit light to me. So, UKAR collective, please discuss

It will be able to fly again but not in the country of its birth unfortunately. We are now so risk averse in the UK in relation to air displays that even if authority was given for it to fly here it would be so emasculated and distanced from crowds that it might as well stay on the ground in a museum.

They are asking for £180,000 extra. http://www.lightning422supporters.co.uk/pages/html/backstory.htm says they need $600,000 (£374,976.60) for the project altogether.

Really? After the Thunder City events would the FAA want to even certify it in the experimental class?

Only if they put that serial on a F-35.

Apparantly the engines they have in XS422 are only for ground running and will need to be replaced before it can fly, also only 1 ejector seat is going back in so no chance of taking anyone for rides etc.

Doubt it will do anything other than taxi runs to be honest.

I think they will. That doesn't mean I think they should.

I can't see why they won't get her flying and why it won't be safe in all honesty. Let's face it you only have to look at the other jets of a similar era they've got airworthy out there: F-104, F-100, Mig-21, Mig-23 (I believe, sure I've seen photos of one recently) and even Mig-29. No reason why a Lightning couldnt be added to the list provided its operated safely and sensibly
