Russia - Voronezh airbase (HUGE post)
Russia - Voronezh airbase (HUGE post)
In 2011 and 2012 I went to Russia with a goal to get some active Foxbats. While the photos are technically not up to date, I only recently started visiting this site so I have not really posted many photos here yet. Su-24s were plentiful, Foxbats not so much however I am happy with what I got alongside them.
At the entrance one finds a neat sign and a Su-24 monument
But, the main reason I went here - MiG-25s!
1) MiG-25RBF
2) Cockpit of same aircraft
3)
4) MiG-25RU
5) Cockpit of MiG-25RU
6) Second cockpit
7)
8) 2 Foxbats
9) Of course, once I finally heard the roar of the mighty Tumansky turbojets I was very happy. In flight:
10) More
11)
12)
13)
14) MiG-25RBT
15) Unfortunately the approach got switched right before these two landed and I had no time to go around. But I got them on the roll out. Unfortunately they did not fly again while I was there. MiG-25RBF with the huge drop tank:
16) MiG-25PU
17) MiG-25PU
18) MiG-25PU

Also based here are some Mi-8s flown by the MVD (Ministry of Internal Affairs) recognized by the white stripe.

There was other activity too, sometimes there are a lot of visitors:

91) Su-27 guest

What a fantastic set, the MiG-25 is on my aviation bucketlist as well, I guess I'll have to start doing somehting about that soon...
Also I thought the cockpit of the Su-34 was a bit more "high tech" than it actually is. Did'nt they just enter service last year?

Some excellent shots from the most beautiful country in the world!
I remember my visits to Russia in 2012 and 2013. You made some nice
angles, no 34 and 35 are my winners in your series.

Spectacular set, nice to see the Russian Air Force An-26s getting some love, so easily overshadowed by those other magnificent beasts!

Wonderful post - thoroughly enjoyed viewing it. The Foxbats are epic - an engine with an aircraft on it...
Also the Su-34 cockpit looks ancient for the age of the aircraft...? Not liking their luminous turquoise either!

Absolutely amazing. One of the best posts i've ever seen on this website.
Already asked but I must know - how did you get an opportunity to take shots like these?

Thanks everyone for the comments! The base hosted an open day so getting in was no problem.
Unfortunately Russia is no longer possible. I'm afraid in order to get the beast you will need to travel to much more unfriendly destinations (Algeria, Syria, Azerbaijan) assuming they even fly there anymore. Personally, I wouldn't go to any of them .
Actually this particular one was number "46" - a pre-production model which is at least 10 years old. It was on static display at MAKS 2003.

I literally do not know where to begin complimenting. Incredible selection, technically and creatively empowering and with great lighting on fantastic subjects.

Absolutely fantastic set. So many interesting machines at work and nice to see the base so busy and active. Image 54 is my favourite. In image 89, I am surprised to see how well kept and modern looking the inside of the MiG-31 is.
Thanks for sharing.
