Farewell to 216 Sqn and Tristar-Last Operational Flight 24/3

Post by Arno 01 »

I was extremely lucky to be allowed to fly on the last operational sorties for RAF Tristars and 216 Sqn today. Many thanks to OC 216 Sqn and Flt Lt Liz Beauchamp and the crew of Fagin 11 and Fagin 12.
I was on Fagin 12 and my friend Sam was on Fagin 11. Lucky for me, Sam took my spare camera and got some shots from Fagin 11. Sam's shots are first, Nikon D90 and 70-300mmVR. Windows were a real challenge and hard to shoot through. Processed on the 'laptop' so hopefully ok

Fantastic set, all the air-to-airs looks smashing. Incredibly sad to see the aircraft bow out

Cracking set  Not sure about number 12 though, I think the window might have affected it for you as the port wing and engine look soft but the rest of th image is fine to me. Then again, I'm not jealous in any way whatsoever of you having a top view out of the window of a Tristar with Typhoons and Tornados everywhere, no really no jealous at all...
Thanks for posting

Thanks Arno, thoroughly enjoyed looking at these fantastic photos - a sad day for Two Sixteen and I really hope they make a return in a future role, who knows ? I love ZD951 with the enlarged " Golden Chicken " on it's tail, ( even tho it's been painted the wrong way round! ) wonder where she will end up ?

All the best to everyone on 216 and good luck from a former Sooty with 216, 1979 - 1980 Buccaneer / Hunter, RAF Honington.

Belter of a set Kev and well done on FAGIN 11 Sam. All glorious.

A very sad farewell to 'two-sixteen'.

Regards, Ian
