Payerne Airshow, Switzerland - Large Post

Post by nacl1 »

The following pictures are from the first weekend of this superb airshow. The pictures are from both days, in a random selection, and due to time constraints, are not captioned. Hopefully the subjects are fairly well known...

Thanks, Colin. Everything about Payerne was on a large scale, including the standardised ham sandwiches that everyone seemed to enjoy at lunchtime, and the hike from the car parks. A great display, one of the best I have ever been to. A credit to the organisers, in spite of daily attendances of 80,000, it took less than 10 minutes from reaching the car on Sunday evening to getting onto the autoroute.

Wow, great photos.

I can not wait for this weekend. What was the crowd line like. From the live stream it didn't look super crowded at the front.

On Saturday, I was at the western end, and there was a solid mass of spectators everywhere. On Sunday, the eastern end was less crowded and with a bit of luck on my side, I made it to the front of the crowdline. If you want to be certain of a front line place, suggest you get there very early, as 8:00am the crowd was quite substantial. There are some raised mounds at the back of the crowd line, but you will still need to be there early. Also, in spite of advice on the website not to bother to take food and drink, you may wish to take your own picnic, as the choice of food as far as I could see was ham sandwiches, with an option for veggies to have the ham removed!

Have a good weekend, it is really worth the trip.

lovely pics  , you must have been just to the left of us. The food was limited and there was no water point (that we could see) but on the Sunday we walked up to the far end and there was a much better selection (not a donkey burger in sight)
PS static was very limited but with a flying display like that, does it really matter?

Super pics! I noticed on the Airshow website section for visitors it said "no ladders". Is that prohibition being rigidly enforced?

There were a few people using two or three step ladders, but not many. A number of ladder users stood in front of the crowd along the crowd line. Not sure why they needed the ladders there.

Thanks - I'll take mine just in case. Using a ladder on the crowdline seems pretty selfish to me but that's some people for you.

Hi Graham,

I can see you had just the best time. Fantastic selection, and well worth the trip. I really like some of the unusual formations, quite aside from the wonderful variety of aircraft.

All the best,

Anthony.
