Myself & my late dad were fortunate to visit RAF Alconbury on numerous times during the late seventies & throughout the eighties & what a great airbase it was for photography, ‘Owl End’ now goes down in folk law as one the best places ever for photography particularly when you could shoot the beautifully marked 527th Aggressors Squadron F-5E Tigers so close.. I'll throw in the Bahrain AF examples in for completeness they were at the time on delivery..

Very nice Stu, sadly the F-5s had gone before I became familiar with Owl End (1988), there was just one left on static that year.
All those great schemes with their various names such as Ghost, Snake, Lizard and Grape! Funny enough many of us have photographed some of those very aircraft still going strong with the Navy at Fallon!
Top post.

Great to see these, I lived down the road at Brampton whilst I was very young but I have little to no memory of the ops taking place at Alconbury. I have vague memories of M(?)H-53s and the odd C-130 but that's about it

Great set - thanks for posting and bringing back memories of the Aggressors . They used to be commonplace at UK shows back in the day.

Happy days. The Bahraini jobs were a nice catch.

A brilliant set of shots Stu, loved the F-5's from the 527th I would often watch these performing missed approaches at Coltishall from my class-room window in the mid eighties!
