Helicopter Gunships

Post by Airwolfhound »

Well, as my username suggests I love helicopters with guns and missiles, fact or fictional

Therefore, in the vain hope of RIAT getting anything rotary with some ordnance hanging off them, how about sharing some of your shots with these glorious machines in ?

I haven't been lucky enough to shoot anything major in the variety stakes, but here's what I can offer so far :-

If Lynxs count, then just the one from me. I really hope for more gunships next year

I was thinking of creating this very thread earlier today, as a matter of fact. Great minds 'n all that

I really don't have as many shots as I'd like of this subject, but here's a few:

First up some 1990's Gunships, some of these if not all were taken by Andy63 so hopefully he will be able to give more details.

Just realised, I've uploaded them to Flickr with my watermark unintentionally, if anyone objects I will remove them and re-post.

Cheers
Tim

Nice thread and some fabulous images so far. OK, just taken a look at the images posted by Tim and some are indeed familiar. Here's the gaps I can fill regards details:

1. AH-1W 160107 taken at the D-Day photocall at RNAS Lee-on-Solent on 4/6/94. What a day that was, no less than 2 different photocalls to go to on the same day as part of the D-Day 50th anniversary celebrations. The other venue was Yeovilton. Weather wasn't great but the quality of the participants at both airfields was truly breathtaking. No less than 6 x Tomcats and 4 x Greek Phantoms at Yeovilton amongst others. That day could be a thread in it's own right but I digress!

2. AH-64A 86-8961 at RNAS Yeovilton 15/7/95

3. AH-1W 165046 at Middle Wallop 14/5/94

5. Mil Mi-24V 0839 at Fairford 19/7/97

7. Mil Mi-24D 0411 at Volkel 1/7/95

10. Rooivalk ZU-AHC at Middle Wallop 14/5/94. One and only example I've ever seen but I don't think they built many!

The remainder of the photos I can't say as they weren't taken by me. Sure wish I had taken them though

These are only 'best' guesses:-
6) the Dunsfold Relic in better times??
8) With those cabbages, must be Koksijde??
What do you think?

Here are my humble efforts, they're not of the best quality but the content more than makes up for that imo.

I think you're probably spot on with No.8 Stagger2, with those cabbages, must be Koksijde. Possibly savoy

Not sure about No.6. I thought the Dunsfold example was ex Hungarian but quite happy to be corrected on that one.

Some more fab photos here guys, keep 'em coming. I'll take a look later to see if I've got some worth posting.

Not quite in the same league as some of the stunning shots on here but a few of hopeful interest.

Firstly AH-1W 165289 at Andrews AFB - May 2008

Image

Also at Andrews, MH-47G 04-03750

Image

Then a couple of Hinds taken at Kleine-Brogel - September 2009 during the Tiger Meet
