Thought I'd get in early on this one - so what can be the aviation worlds next really big flying project? love it or hate it you cannot deny that what started out as 'Vulcan to the Sky' was a pioneering and highly successful undertaking - its happened once so why not again! how about a Sea Harrier or maybe a Buccaneer? What would really capture the public's imagination - or was XH558 a one off never to be repeated effort? (I hope not).

I think the only other aircraft that would really capture the public's imagination would be Concorde, but that simply isn't going to happen.

Obviously enthusiasts would like to see a Sea Harrier, Buccaneer or Shackleton, but I doubt any of those would pull in donations like the Vulcan has been able to do.

I don't think any other aircraft/organisation will be able to pull off what the Vulcan/VTST has done under those circumstances. Good luck if anyone tries it.

If we're living in a dream world then it would be an easy choice for me, Concorde. In the real world my choice is what is hopefully going to happen, Lancaster 'Just Jane'.

Being realistic, it's got to be the Coventry Shackleton and Just Jane at East Kirkby. Wasn't there rumours of a Gannet being restored in the UK? Plus I'm intrigued about the Harrier GR3 that's been clandestinely bimbling around a grass runway in Shropshire.

Regarding some of the other suggestions. The Bucc at Scampton has been mentioned for years, nothing appears to have changed and I can't see it flying again even if it is theoretically feasible. Concorde CANNOT physically fly again, so forget that one straight away. The MoD will not allow a VC10 to fly again. And it's all gone quiet with the massive longshot, the People's Mosquito.

What kind of shape is the De-Havilland Comet at Bruntingthorpe?

I seem to recall there was an issue in that with the modifications (Nimrod undercarriage being one of them I think) , during its life, meant it was no longer viewed as just a Comet but more of a hybrid aircraft?

I'd love to see that flying again and in BOAC colours.

Isn't there some issue with restoring aircraft to flight that have reheat capabilities? As in never in a million years? Anyone heard of that or am I just pulling that out of thin air? Lol!
