Gnat Crash - Carfest

Post by Arthur Tee »

Just had a report that a Gnat has crashed at or near Oulton Park.
Anyone heard anything else?

From the pictures can you tell the severity of the accident and/or which jet was involved? Terrible news for the team whatever the outcome

Edit: I've heard a report that suggests that it was the Red Arrows scheme Gnat that crashed during a turn, can anyone confirm whether the pilot was seen to eject?

Not good news, hoping for some better news about the pilot. Security reporting that he managed to eject, but haven't seen any photos of a parachute yet.

Video just shown on Sky News appears to show the aircraft flying at low level, and then invert and nosedive straight into the ground, no ejection initiated.

Sky news quoting a witness:
It didn't look like he properly had time to eject and because of the angle of the plane turning in the actual loop, the cockpit head was more pointing towards the ground than upwards

Really hoping for better news regarding the pilot

My twitter feed is full of it. One nutter has just claimed I'm more concerned about the type of plane rather than the crew, if he would care to read further back...

I'm hoping for a miraculous outcome, though that video has made me feel rather upset and sick.

About 30 minutes ago saw the Red Arrows liveried gnat recovering to Hawarden. Hope the other pilot got out...

Can only see one unfortunate outcome of an ejection at that height and angle.

Given the height and almost inverted dive that the aircraft was in a miracle would be needed I fear  The video is sickening to watch

This is terrible news. Is it the team that displayed at Culdrose on Thursday?
