Good to see the Hawk Speed Six again, though I hope we get more of a display from it than last time when it only took part in the air race.

I'd be tempted by a stronger line-up. Bit thin at the moment.
Book the North Weald Fury and they'd double the attendance...

Indeed, with the Speed Six gone I'm not sure there's enough on the list to tempt me.
However, the Camel flying, or the addition of the Fury would change that...
Re: Race Day & Roaring Twenties Finale - 2nd October 2016
Fury, and perhaps another WWII era warbird could convince me. Or even a 'filler' airshow act such as the Wingwalkers or Blades to give the show a spice of variety. But to be honest pre-1940s aviation isn't really my thing so I understand why the participation list doesn't appeal that much to me. If I did like that stuff, I understand that it's a stonking line-up.

Air Racing in general doesn't hold much appeal to me - the Comet is an exception, it has the 'x-factor'.
The Fury would be a great addition. Could it land at OW?

Well certainly the Fury and also the Bearcat and a Mustang would fit the racing theme perfectly...

Hangar 11's Mustang is already on the list.

It seems that you do not need to buy tickets in advance this time. Is that correct please?

You never need to buy advance tickets for Shuttleworth shows, unless they sell out in advance.

Re: Race Day & Roaring Twenties Finale - 2nd October 2016
The flying programme is now up and there are some notable additions to the line-up - see http://www.shuttleworth.org/events/raceday/
Of particular note are the Fox Moth, three (!) Chiltons, Moth Racer, Puss Moth (assume the one with the silver shoes) and Sopwith Dove. Vega Gull static too. Much like Race Day I (one of the best vintage airshows ever, IMO), it's likely the strongest line-up of '20s and '30s classics you'll see at a UK airshow all year. Around 45 odd classic cars on the ground too, and 'sprint' races from Edwardian and 1920s vehicles at 12pm. Glorious stuff. Giant Scalextric is absolutely mad too.
Shame the Hawk Speed 6 canned, but you can't have it all. Anything "missing" has pretty much been replaced by something equally lovely.
Nicely done, Old Warden. Once again organising a tremendous, immersive themed airshow.

Sunday's wind forecast for 7-8mph from 1300 to 1600, then dropping to 5mph. Wind direction from the north.
Anyone care to offer an opinion on if this is likely to be a full display or would that still be too high for some?
Phil

Possibly a full display, maybe even the Edwardians with a mere 5mph forecast.

I haven't been to Old Warden since the eighties where my other half informs me we saw Gary Numan. I've just bought a ticket inspired I have to say, by so many positive comments from members of this forum over the last couple of seasons. Let's hope on Monday I can add to those comments.

Ticket bought, and I actually plan to turn up this time!
Re: Race Day & Roaring Twenties Finale - 2nd October 2016
The wind is a little stronger than forecast, and hoped for - hopefully will drop as the day progresses.
Just had the pleasure of meeting George Hardy, who flew Hangar 11's "Tall in the Saddle" during WW2. Such an amenable and friendly chap - spent a fair amount of time sharing some good tales with the crowd as well. Very spritely for a mid 90's gent!!

A great day today, thoroughly enjoyed the racing! Very different. Comet displays(!) were fantastic as usual, I don't think I'll tire of seeing that 'usual suspect'. PK in Ballerina was superb, too - amazing flying.
Re: Race Day & Roaring Twenties Finale - 2nd October 2016
Really enjoyed my day in lovely weather. Great way to finish the season.
Great to see the DH88 fly again after 29 years. (Air Fete 87?)
