Which is your favourite special scheme?

Post by The Baron »

Just a bit of fun, I don't think it's been done recently, but which is your favourite special scheme to have appeared in recent years? I know there's many that I've missed out!

My favourite scheme is the No.1(F) Squadron Harrier GR9A, which is now at Cosford.

For me it's got to be the Lafayette RD Mirage 2000N, because the Duex Mille is beautiful enough but that black, blue and red was just gorgeous  Honorable mention to Zeus and the 2016 Belgian Tiger F-16 as well for being almost as tasty!

The RSV's new Italian Tornado special has got to be up there as one of the strongest schemes in recent years.

The Canadian Hornet is pretty cool. And I did like GiNA I must confess.

Difficult as there's been some beautiful schemes. The 39 sqn retirement Canberra, the 15 sqn centenary Tornado and the 2001 Luftwaffe "peeled back" Tiger markings are all personal favourites.

From your list Soloturk, all time favourite was 56 Squadron's Tornado F3, which used to be superbly displayed by Fred Grundy. 1990's Era?

I especially liked the The Bavarian Typhoon Tiger (orange metallic)
& the Red/White/ Blue Norwegian F16
........& the Green Tiger Rafale
...........oh and the black and red Tiger striped Super Étendard
...............and not forgetting the Belgian Tiger F104 Starfighter
..............................I'll leave it there.

Maybe we could do another list for best Operational scheme ?

Was that the red/white stripes scheme on they tail/rear of the aircraft? Their Firebirds specials around 2000 and 2006 were hella smart too.

Always liked the combination of colours of the Desert Air Force's aircraft so particularly liked this as applied to the Tucano in 2013.

Hopefully we'll see a plethora of similar in 2018 to mark RAF's centenary.

Would make a great Typhoon scheme especially with a sharkmouth on the intake....

322 'Flying Monsters' Tornado 46-31, although I don't know if it's classed as recent, but is within the last 10 - 15 years.

More recently, I'd go with Camo Typhoon. (GN-A)

Voted for the new French Rafale as that's a work of art and not just limited to the topside!

2013 for the Czech Tiger Gripen which appeared at Yeovilton, that was a stunner. Of course the BoB Typhoon was lovely and other favourites include "Tango" the F-16, Miss Demeanour, the Desert Tucano and everything in raspberry ripple!

When I saw that picture of the Tucano in the Camouflage scheme it reminded me of one which hardly ever gets a mention these days and that is the 2008 RAF Hawk T.1 in Camouflage unfortunately I only saw it at the wettest Leuchars Airshow (2008) I've ever been at.

I'm trying to find out what that Camouflage scheme was on that Hawk.

It was the 70th anniversary of when 19 Squadron became the first unit to re-equip with the Spitfire I.

And yes, it was gorgeous!
