GASSY06, Fly Gucci; 16 April 08

Post by dunny »

Hello

This is the last set of photos from our Alaskan excursion. As part of the second media day at Eielson AFB, we were able to fly with the crew of GASSY06, a KC-10 deployed for the exercise.

Our aircraft provided tanker support to some of the participant Red Flag - Alaska aircraft, in our case F-16CJs from the 35th FW. We were able to go and shoot the aircraft from the boom operators compartment, and some of us were considerably luckier than others in both the amount of trade we got, and the joins and breaks from the tanker.

First jet was a SNIPER equipped F-16CJ:

Next up a SEAD configured, HARM equipped jet:

Last one for me was a LANTIRN equipped aircraft:

With huge thanks to the crew of GASSY06 and to John, the Eielson PAO for his boundless patience and assistance in helping this come off. It was a tremendous experience, and one which I won't ever forget.

A report from the exercise appears in this months Combat Aircraft magazine, and features photos from myself and Paul Filmer (skippyscage). More of my shots can be found here.

Thanks for looking,
Paul

Thanks chaps.
Andrew: They were all taken with my 28-135mm. The aircraft are very close, but it is difficult to get them in frame as the nose is underneath you when they are on the boom.

Dunny,

Amazing mate, one of the best sets of images posted on this board for quite some time and you currently have 177 views with only 4 replies one of which is your own, outrageous.

Hard to pick a favorite fella, love the people shots and all the breakaway shots, esp the last one (F-16), that is a top draw image.

A superb and well processed set mate, some of you best work to date IMHO our kid, well worthy of many more comments

Cheers
John

Outstanding images and thanks for sharing

Not often one can see such fine pictures which are certainly unusual in a very positive way for most of us erath bound mortals.... glad you folks got this opportunity and you let us take part in it! Hard to pick a favourite but mine would be # 3 of the SNIPER or the HARM F-16 pulling off the boom. Very well done!

Just stunning pics Paul!

First time I've seen that GIF file work. It never worked when you sent it. Amazing experience. How does the KC-10 f/d compare? It looks similar, but I bet it's quite different
