"Miss Velma" Remarkable feat of Airmanship (Photos back)
Witnessed a truly remarkable bit of airmanship at the Duxford Flying Legend display this afternoon,as the elements of the finale were landing,Miss Velma landing in the second element was heard to have a problem,on hearing this I tried to position to see what the problem was only to witness the events seen below,as seen in the photos the pilot made a landing in the field between the M.11 and the road leading to Duxford village,

Pretty incredible sequence. How did the canopy end up off?

Probably popped it to make a quick escape?

Didn't know you could pop the canopy in a Mustang?

Think all dome canopy mustangs have a jettison mechanism.

Is the 'Fete of airmanship' the new name for a Mildenhall show?
Re: Miss Velma Remarkable fete of Airmanship Duxford
He even phones the fire brigade himself, what a guy!
On another note, the OP is clearly an 'extended centreline dweller', perhaps this incident will show you how silly you are, but I doubt it.

As the so called OP I was positioned near residential houses and primary school no where near the extended centreline with other members of the public.

Silly me, there was me thinking you were standing in a field of wheat. Do you mean Duxford school, what were you using, the Hubble Space Telescope?
Re: Miss Velma Remarkable feat of Airmanship Duxford
Prob taken from the dusty layby near the main road and you wouldn't need the hubble to see it !
Re: Miss Velma Remarkable feat of Airmanship Duxford
But a school and houses were mentioned

Looks like he is retracting the gear only just missing the fence .the wing doesn't look healthy.

Interesting photographs, which I hope for your sake you don't sell to the media. This is not something to profit from, and we all know what tone the papers will take. And how you will be forever viewed among fellow enthusiasts.
The only people these pictures should be going to are the AAIB and the aircraft's owners.

While not condoning those standing where they shouldn't, it is up to the OP what he does with his photos. No-one else. If he wants to sell them ,share them, delete them, it's his call.

*scratches head* We (the staff team) had already been in touch with him soon after they were posted last night saying we were fine with the images being on the forum, no idea why they have been removed.

With the ARCo buildings in the background he was no where near the centreline but was closer to the A505.

Even so, a man as familiar with the surrounding geography as you, Brian, will know there are no schools or houses in that immediate vicinity.

I know we don't speculate on the incident itself but are we allowed to speculate on what has happened to the images?

Re: Miss Velma Remarkable feat of Airmanship Duxford
Seeing as the OP has now been bullied into removing his photos (which I haven't seen as they were removed before I saw this thread) then surely we may as well delete the thread entirely as it makes about as much sense as snooker on the radio without the pics

More likely phoning family to let them know he is safe as the aircraft identity would probably be out on social media by that point.
