Hi all,
Once again I visited the Shuttleworth collection, this time for their Edwardian pageant. I was particularly looking forward to seeing the camel and snipe, but unfortunately the camel never took to the air (assuming the wind was out of limits for her). However, the snipe, despite taking a while to get started, didn't fail to deliver. It is only the second time I've got to see her fly, last time at Duxford, but boy is Shuttleworth the best venue for such an aircraft (Indeed any aircraft!). It was also nice to get to see the DH.51 and Dove, both for only the second time, in the air where they belong. Overall it was a great show, as ever, despite the attempts of some people to try and push in front of us when the wingwalkers were starting up!
Thought I'd share a few of my photos from the day, hope they are of interest:

As I understand it (or rather if I understood Jean Michel Munn correctly) The Camel doesn't yet have a full Permit to display as it hasn't completed all the test flights due to the further work on the engine needed which was only just completed so it wasn't due to fly on Sunday even if the weather had been perfect.

It is a lovely aircraft. I'm assuming you didn't make it up for this show Alex?

That makes a lot of sense thinking about it. I had read about Dodges test flight in propswing, and, if I recall correctly, she is rather susceptible to wind conditions, i just assumed that was the reason. Seems odd to put it on the display list if they knew she's not clear to display yet.

Rather naughty of them then to have had it on the flying list from February right up to the show day!!
Lovely shots, the Snipe was excellent..
You caaan't trust the system... Maaan!

Actually I disagree, there was genuinely every intention to have the Camel displayed but circumstances worked against them at thevlast minute. It's in the small print regarding availability, conditions etc.

You can't have it both ways though. If they didn't have all the necessary permits and papers and therefore have not made the necessary test flights and practices to display the thing, surely they must have known this and removed it from the display list or listed it as static only before the actual day of the show itself?

Yes, an obvious mistake on my part. Still, Sept. 3rd Heritage Day looks good. Hope to see the Snipe sometime next year now.

WW1 Aviation Heritage Trust have the Snipe listed as flying and static at Shuttleworth's Heritage day on their website's schedule;
