Thirded by me. I've oft thought that Cosford, if not a two day event, should at least do something public on the Saturday.

Another +1 here. With a proposed 100 aircraft on static it's going to be near impossible to see everything in just one day.

I hope that the RAF expect to have more than just a Typhoon, the Red Arrows, the Falcons and BBMF on view air wise in 2018. And I'm not entertaining the idea of a Tutor or something along those lines thrown in. I heard yesterday, third hand albeit, that the MOD have already had to scale down, significantly, a march past through London. Evidently nearly all Station Commanders contacted (hardly many nowadays) could not commit the level of personnel for the grand centenary parade, all due to cutbacks to personnel and outsourcing to civilian companies many functions once carried out by regular RAF personnel, including in depth aircraft maintenance. Further with large numbers of what's left deployed all over the place, there isn't much left for any kind of significant service celebrations. I'm told that the contingency plan is to have a delegation of about half dozen or so personnel from each base, they'll be joined by the QCS and Air Training Corps cadets. The latter are now to be known as RAF cadets. And yet I bet it could get even worse. Its times like this however that we see much more clearly what kind of country we've become. :-X

How about 200, maybe 250 enthusiasts, based in crowd line pen but also maybe split into groups of 10 for a walkaround, guided by a volunteer marshal? I'd volunteer, Geoff has, I'm sure Tommy would, and I can think of a few other pillars of the community who'd do their bit. Sounds like a topper idea to me

Having compiled the checklist for this year's show, I've a fairly good understanding of how the show site works on the Saturday, although it will be nothing like the insight that Peter can offer.

We (Threshold) would be happy to get involved with this and the Cosford Club enclosure would lend itself nicely - on the crowdline at crowd centre-ish and not far to walk from the majority of the static. There's a marquee already in place should it rain, it has it's own toilets and it's enclosed (like enclosures often are).

However, a wander around the static would, I fear, be very difficult, even one that was escorted. The showground is incredibly busy with traders, ground exhibits etc all arriving and departing before 10am when the airfield becomes active. The Saturday sees a considerable number of civilian aircraft, both for static and flying displays, arriving and being manoeuvred into their intended parking places whilst the airfield is open. The airfield closes again at 6pm, I recall, and whilst it is quieter, there are still vehicles arriving, unloading and departing, as per the morning.

You also need to factor in around 200-220 cars (about right for the number of people suggested above) which would have to enter the airfield through the same gates as the traders et al mentioned above and be on the airfield before 10am. At 10am, the enthusiasts in attendance would have to be contained within the Cosford Club enclosure as they are surrounded by active runways and taxiways.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would certainly be challenging to organise and coordinate around everything else that's going on, on the airfield.

RNAS Yeovilton`s Photocall day on the Friday is very similar to the outline above and works well. Similar number and again no access to static now. Not to everyone`s liking but a good day nonetheless.

Is the museum open on the day of the airshow? If so what time does it open/close? Would like to get in to see the Vulcan and Lincon if I can.

Exactly!! Dunkirk spirit and all that! Personally I was thinking of just shooting the static stuff that is being roaded in without too much public distraction but hey, anythings good. I'm just aware that with potentially so much rare stuff seeing the light of day I'd hate the opportunity to shoot 'em restricted to one very busy day...

For the very reason ST24 mentions above I will travel from abroad for this event but does anyone have any inkling as to whether any 'spotters day' or extra day for static exhibits is likely or even if it has been ruled out so I can book ever increasing cost of flights thanks

If all else fails and there is no extra day, you can spend the day on the platform at Cosford railway station (for free) and catch any arrivals or rehearsals. And get stared at by the passengers on the trains as they wonder what you're doing

Getting the shuttle bus from Swindon to Fairford was always a strange experience with the bus spotters tactically positioned on corners, not that i'm looking down on them or anything as everybody needs a hobby or passion.

On the subject of the trains, last year on the Friday arrivals of Cosford, I think a special one went past as the majority of the aviation spotters turned away from the air base in unison for the first time of the day.

Cosford are hoping to announce the first flying display this month.

This Gloster Meteor is one of the many RAF Museum aircraft coming out from their hangars to join the special RAF100 exhibition on the airfield. In addition to these aircraft on the ground, the thrilling six-hour flying display will feature an increased number of ex-RAF vintage aircraft, flying alongside the best of today's Royal Air Force! We hope to announce the first participants for the flying display during December.

Crikey, other than the Mustang and that "Russian Spitfire" that's all of Teichman's fleet. Top commitment, that man.

Great start, Pegs, PRXI and the Ace's High C-47 are all top additions.
