Whilst the UK was being battered by a few storm systems last Week I traveled out to Greece for the Athens Flying Week 2018.
After watching a few video clips from the 2017 event, my mind was set.
This Years Air Show seems to have completely passed by the enthusiast community, with very little talk before the event and no photos on the forums after.
A good venue location set at Tanagra Air Base 50 or so kilometers to the North of Athens, with the chance of sun, relaxation and the chance to photograph rare Greek hardware not usually on show.
Little did I know that just Days after the event, the Mediterranean area has been hit by storms themselves.
I visited for 6 Days courtesy of a spotters package with the Airshow organized by an independent organization.
A nice mix of Greek military was on show, static and flying with the Navy, Army and Air Force all contributing.
The flying included Foreign solo displays and display teams, helicopters, parachutes and stunt aircraft.
On Wednesday we arrived at the base late Afternoon for the arrival of the Polish Orliks
Stored on the airfield, 8-10 Greek C130
Day 2 Started with a launch of 3 Greek Mirage 2000
Arriving Foreign participation
What a paint job and VADOR FORCE demonstrating how to fly!
For me what its all about
Very interesting late announced participants from Sigonella/Moron on 6 month deployment from New River
Outlaw12
a successful touchdown unlike the tour Years back!
Highlight of the fast demos was the Spanish F18 display, very agressive
Zeus!
With the 6 Day Spotter/Enthusiast package I was hopeful of photographing a lot of Helicopters.
We did pretty ok over the 6 Days but more communication between the organizers, Air Arms and the base itself could have led to really great photo possibilities for arrivals and departures.
A bit like the West end of RIAT, just a little bit more thought could have gone a long way to vastly improving the spotter package.
Come on AFW, give us what we came for and then we could really promote and put Athens Flying Week on the radar of many enthusiasts!
The undoubted star of the heli displays was this AH64A, masters of perfection!
The RC Kavala Acro team really caught my attention and drew the 1st applause of the Day from the crowd, great guys too
Another example of the diversity to keep the audience happy
2 Swiss displays together
Thumbs up from me too!
Always a highlight!
Nice late static addition from Caseux
With the crowded static, we had to wait for the moment
More Heli action
Departure Day
Behind the Skyvan
That's it, have some more but that just about covers it.
Good to meet up with old Friends and make new ones from Greece, Israel, Russia, Koos and Fritz, and the 4NL Aviation group.
We had a good laugh.

Excellent set of images from what looked like a varied show. Hard to pick a favourite.

Excellent haul from an event that seems to have been largely overlooked by UK enthusiasts. Comments from guys I know who attended, centred around the lack of photo-op's for the F-4's, due to high passes or premature turning-off before the spectator point! They are certainly missing from this extensive selection. There were undoubtedly some good opportunities as seen above, but I'm wondering what might have been, with some additional conscious effort by the organisers? Thanks for sharing these, based on this showing I could be tempted to attend the next event.
Anybody else spot the disappearing graphic from portside of AH-64 # 1008? Also, did Rich Pittman go direct from a shoot at Chelsea Flower Show in 'those shorts!' ?

Mr Pittman, really like the golden hour and sunset ones (great light). Well caught on the second Acro pic but not sure of the last pic.
Looks like a great trip.

Great set Rich. Really clean and crisp, and a nice variety of subjects.
